UNS – The team of Garba Wira Bhuana Orienteering of Student’s mountaineering (GWB Mapala) club of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta successfully obtained achievements on the competition of “Sabharigiwana National Orienteering Competition”. This event was conducted by Universitas Tujuh Belas Agustus (UNTAG) Semarang on Saturday to Sunday (29-30/9/2018).
GWB Mapala sent two teams, male and female teams, on the competition. The members of the female teams are Theodora (Agribusiness 2017), and Fitri Juwita (Physic Education 2017). They brought the first winner to UNS on the category of general female. While, the male team that consists of Sam Njar Ramtona (Law 2013) and Furqoni Syahbanna (Sport 2013) got the second runner-up for the category of general male.
Ahmad Iqbal Morgan as the head of GWB Mapala said that the teams of UNS should compete against other 30 teams for the male category and nine teams for the female one. Their competitors are from various universities in Indonesia.
“The female team of GWB Mapala successfully achieved the grand champion with the score 893 in 54 minutes, while the female team set the score 1797 in two hours and one minute. The female team won the second position,” the student of Law 2017 said on Sunday (9/30).
Iqbal explained that the participants should move very quickly. They need to set the navigation and also catch the specified time and get the points from the places specified by the committee. The team that can get the highest point and the fastest movement will be the winner.
Orienteering is a kind of sport that needs skill and ability at navigation like reading map and compass. It matters to complete the track from the control point to other control point as fast as possible. It depends on not only physical endurance, but also the logic.
To show the empathy to the tragedy of earthquake and tsunami at Donggala and Palu, Central Sulawesi (9/28), GWB Mapala would donate a part of the winning prize for the victims. The donation would be sent on Monday (10/1). humas.red-uns/Imr/Dty
