UNS – For two months, a lecturer of Local Literature (Javanese Language and Literature) Department of Faculty of Cultural Science (FIB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Siti Muslifah, S.S., M.Hum, in Hebrew University of Jerusalem to conduct a Javanese Literature research.
To the reporter, Muslifah said that she got the information about Javanese Literature international research program from Hebrew University of Jerusalem. From there, she applied to participate on the competition by sending her research abstract.
“Thank God, I qualified for joining the program,” explained Muslifah excitedly.
After she was announced passing the selection, a letter from Hebrew University of Jerusalem was sent to the campus. Muslifah had to complete the permission and administration to head for Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
“Finally, I was allowed to leave for about two months, starting from January 14 to March 8. I had to be accompanied by my legal escort (mahram) so I went there with my husband,” she said.
The research was conducted by a group of 10, one researcher from each Indonesia, Leiden University, Germany, Australia, Jerusalem, Japan, and US.
For two months, 10 researchers who joined the research group conducted research in accordance with their discipline study. In this occasion, Muslifah carried out a research about Metaphor in a letter of Serat Ringgit Purwa Lampahan Dora Weca. In Hebrew University of Jerusalem, she was translating the letter from Javanese to Latin alphabet. Then it was presented in a forum to get feedback. The result of this research would be published in international journal of Wacana Universitas Indonesia.
In addition, participants of the research group also executed a seminar with a different topic. In this seminar, she performed two titles of Javanese Literature, the first one is Babat Sruni, about the leadership of Tumenggung Kertinegara (a great leader in Old Java). Then the second one is Potehi Traditional Puppet (Wayang Potehi), an acculturation from Javanese and Chinese.
There were million new things earned by Muslifah. Beside the experience of the research, she also learned about tolerance in this country. “It is so impressive, they have high tolerance,” she expressed.
While in Jerusalem, all the accommodation expenses was borne by Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Moreover, she was paid 3.000 dollars every month for conducting her research. Humas UNS/ Dwi/Try
