UNS – The country of Indonesia is an agricultural country. Besides the livelihoods of the majority of farmers, the agricultural area in Indonesia is quite extensive. However, this potential has not been matched by young people who are ready to become the regeneration of Indonesian agricultural practitioners as young farmers with advanced mindsets and technology literacy.
The potential for many Indonesian youths, especially with the demographic bonus, became the research background for Adie Bayu Putra, alumni of Agrotechnology from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, to establish an agricultural community that accommodates youth to work through various means within the scope of agriculture. The AgriPro community was officially launched in conjunction with the holding of a Talkshow with the theme ‘The Time for Millennials of Agricultural Literacy’ on Monday (4/22/2019) at the UNS Faculty of Agriculture Hall.
“Today, many young people leave agriculture sector, of course it requires a new image and mindset about agriculture so that Indonesian youth can become practitioners of agriculture which facilitates the advancement of Indonesian agriculture. The existence of this community will certainly be very beneficial and will go in the direction in increasing the millennial generation to be involved in the world of agriculture,” Prof. Bambang Pujiasmanto as the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture UNS said.
The AgriPro community which standed for Agri Project is aimed to prepare the best possible agricultural human resources (HR) who were ready to plunge into the scientific field of agriculture, and networking.
“Many agricultural students do not have networks and capitals so they do not continue their work in the agricultural sector. With this community we target students to become prestigious, contributive, inspirational students and later to have the network, access, and capital to be brave to become post-campus agricultural practitioners,” Adie Bayu Putra, AgriPro founder, said.
The community mobilization team consisted of him, as the Faculty of Agriculture alumni, and 6 Faculty of Agriculture students which were divided into several divisions, namely the technology division, media division, independence division, research and achievement division, and service division. As for members, Adie said that open recruitment would be conducted in the near future but would not be in the large numbers. They would only select those who really intended to advance Indonesian agriculture and the background studies were not from agricultural students only.
As the first step to invite students to start farming steps, the unique thing about this event was the souvenirs given in the form of “Plant Kit” which contained pots, soil, and chili seeds. This aimed to show that farming was not a difficult thing. Humas
