UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held several events to commemorate UNS 44th Anniversary. As one of the events, UNS held 11K Open UNS 2020, Sunday morning (8/3/2020).
With a start in UNS Lake, the participants come from various categories, such as Military/Police, male/female students, Student Regiment (Menwa), university students, male/female general participants, and international, began the 11-kilometer marathon track since 5:30 a.m. The route of the 11K Open UNS 2020 was Vastenburg Fort, RSUD dr Moewardi, Jl. Monginsidi, Jl. R.E. Martadinata, and Jl. Ir. Sutami.
In the international category, Samson Karega Kamau from Kenya won the marathon with a record of 34.20.59. Samson said that he is very happy to participate in the 11K Open UNS 2020.
“I am very happy to win the 11K Open UNS. When we saw the marathon event on the website and Instagram, I immediately did the exercise routinely for a month,” Samson said in the interview with uns.ac.id.
When asked about his training routine, Samson stated that in a week he trained six times with intensive training three times a day. He also managed his diet and consumed healthy foods to prepare his body for the marathon event held by UNS this year.
“In Kenya, there are special foods for the athlete, Ugali, made from dried corn and processed using a machine. I ate that in the evening, in the morning I ate race and vegetables,” he added.
Besides Samson, two other runners from Kenya, Thomas and Nicolas, each ranked second and third. Thomas with the record of 34:39:35 and Nicolas with the record of 36:08:97.
In the general male category, the first place was gained by Nur Sodiq from Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) with the record of 35:39:84, the second place Yanuar with the record of 35:59:90, the third-place Khumala with the record of 37:16:92.
In the general female category, the first place was gained by Endah from Magelang with the record of 44:10:37, the second place Bertiningsih with the record of 44:26:53, and third place Septiana with a record of 46:06:72. Humas UNS/ Yefta
