UNS – A total of 20 new professors in Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta are planting trees to celebrate the 44th UNS Anniversary. This tree planting is conducted in the UNS Javanology area, Tuesday (10/3/2020) after the UNS Anniversary Flag Ceremony.
The Head of UNS Senate, Prof. Adi Sulistiyono said that the event has become a routine event during the last few years by the UNS professors.
“This intended to protect the environment, thus UNS can remain beautiful, the tree selection is also unique because each professor can choose the tree they want to plant. Maybe it aims that the plant can be used as medicine when the time comes,” said Prof. Adi Sulistiyono.
This event is followed by trees planting in the designed place. Some of the rare trees planted by the professors are Sawo Kecik (Manilkara kauki) planted by Prof. Dr. Cucuk Nur Rosyidi, S.T., M.T dan Prof. Dr. Mulyanto, M.Pd., Lerak (Sapindus rarak) planted by Prof. Dr. Hunik Sri Runing Sawitri, M.Si., and Gayam Tree (Inocarpus fagifer) planted by Prof. Dr. Eddy Heraldy, M.Si.
Meanwhile, the Professor from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) UNS, Prof. Dr. Eddy Heraldy, M.Si., mentioned that he chooses Gayam tree because this tree grows on slopes and usually can overcome landslides and can absorb water. Moreover, its fruit tastes good. Humas UNS/Ratri
