UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held an education activity entitled ‘UNS Mengajar Indonesia’. This activity is a part of the series of the 44th UNS Anniversary celebration. The ‘UNS Mengajar Indonesia’ is conducted simultaneously on Tuesday (10/3/2020) in several schools, one of them is SMA Pradita Dirgantara. The event that carries the theme ‘Merdeka Belajar’ this year, is consisted of two agendas namely Talk show and ‘UNS Mengajar’. The Talkshow in SMA Pradita Dirgantara Auditorium invites 4 speakers from UNS: the UNS Vice-Rector of Planning and Partnership, Prof. Sajidan, the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs the Faculty of Medicine (FK), Paramasari Dirgahayu, Ph.D., the Director of UNS Hospital, Prof. Hartono, and the Expert Staff of the Rector in Student Affairs, Partnership, and Business Development, Dr. Sutanto.
In his remarks, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho appreciates SMA Pradita Dirgantara as a school with a good academic climate. In the morning and afternoon, the students follow teaching and learning activity and during the evening and night, they stay at the dormitory. Therefore for 24 hours the students always monitored by the school. The Rector of UNS also encouraged ‘Merdeka Belajar’ in this era, ‘Merdeka Belajar (freedom in learning)’ refers to the freedom for the students to find the source of learning and is more demanded to be more active in the classroom. Moreover, the teaching method used is not monotonous in the class but can also take advantage of the surrounding school environment, thus creating a new climate or atmosphere.
“Classroom teaching should be shifted because a person success is not only supported from the academic aspect, but also through soft skill, such as a good communication technique, how to coordinate people, how to lead, and problem-solving within a team, which is not provided in the classroom,” said the Rector of UNS in the front of hundreds of SMA Pradita Dirgantara.
In this activity, all UNS lecturers who attending are welcomed to teach at all classes in SMA Pradita Dirgantara, in accordance with their educational background. The teaching method used is a discussion, thus the students can respond to the material provided. One of the materials, which delivered by the Director of UNS Hospital, Prof. Hartono in 10B classroom, is regarding the handling of Coronavirus or COVID-19. All the students are very enthusiastic and listen to all the material delivered.
One of the students, Dian Rahmanisa, said that the ‘UNS Mengajar’ project is useful and broaden students’ insight. Moreover, the material delivered is one of the issues that currently become public attention. “If we find out by ourselves from Google search, the information obtained is not necessarily valid because there is much fake news. Through this event, I can understand everything about coronavirus or COVID-19. The speakers are fun and very open during the discussion session. I hope this event can be organized more often especially in SMA Pradita Dirgantara,” the 10th-grade student said. Humas UNS/Bayu
