UNS – The Association of Literature and Local Literature Students of Indonesia (Imbasadi) held a national seminar in the Hall of F Building FKIP UNS on Friday (13/3/2020). This seminar carries the theme Urgency of Oral Traditions as an Effort to Strengthen Traditional Culture in a Global Society. Indonesia is a country with various cultures, from Sabang to Merauke have different cultures. In the modernization era, the cultural strengthening must indeed be done so as not to be eroded by the age and generations to come can enjoy the traditional culture that has been inherent since the ancestors.
Two programs that incorporated in Imbasadi are Local Literature FIB UNS and Javanese Literature Education FKIP UNS. This year, UNS is selected as the host for the annual event.
The seminar committee chairman, Oktavian stated that this event is an annual agenda in the Imbasadi Workshop series. “This seminar is attended by 14 universities from Sumatera to Maluku. Besides the seminar, there are other events such as writing competition, poster, and the selection of Imbasadi’s representatives,” the fourth-semester student added.
This seminar is an event of Imbasadi Workshop Series 2020 conducted until 16 March 2020. Fifteen universities that attended the seminar, UNS, UGM, USU, Undiksha, UI, UNY, Unpati, Unnes, IHDN, Unpad, STKIP Muhammadiyah Kuningan, UPGRIS, and UGNP. Three speakers were invited in the seminar, UNS History program academic member, Drs. Suharyana, a researcher from Central Java Language Center (Balai Bahasa Jawa Tengah), Ery Agus K., M.Hum., and academic member of Javanese Literature Education FKIP UNS, Rahmat, M.A.
One of the speakers explained the importance of oral story such as fairy tales as a learning tool. Some messages and lessons can be taken from oral stories. People in the past were well acquainted with the written and oral culture. This is proven by the discovery of regional language manuscripts scattered throughout the archipelago. The manuscripts usually made from bark, leaves, palm, and animal skin.
“Noble values in the oral tradition will always be social control in human interaction, between humans and the environment, and between human and him/herself and between human and God. A country will maintain its social identity when its people continue to follow the tide of globalization and modernization without leaving or forgetting its cultural roots,” stated Ery Agus K., M.Hum.
