Creative, UNS Alumnus Initiate Illustrator Care Movement

UNS – A graduate of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta took part in initiating a creative program; Illustrator Care, to raise funds for OCIVD-19 handling in Indonesia.

Initially, Illustrator Care only has 3 UNS alumni as members: Hasna Jamilah alumnus of Architectural Engineering Program Faculty of Engineering (FT), Nadia La Tsaniya alumnus of Guidance and Counselling Education Program (BK) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), and Uly Wulan Apriani alumnus of Chemistry Program Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA). Over time, many illustrators joined in this kindness movement.

The Illustrator Care Program is a movement to raise donations through artwork in the form of illustrations granted to donors after they donating funds through this movement.

“Illustrator Care is a movement to collect donation, but each person who made a donation get an illustration from the illustrators who joined (the movement),” explained Hasna when contacted by uns.ac.id team, Thursday (16/4/2020).

Hasna admits that she was moved to initiate the Illustrator Care program because she was inspired by her friend who is a fellow recipient of Aktivis Nusantara (Baktinusa) Scholarship granted by a philanthropic institution, Dompet Dhuafa. As the youngster, she wants to take part in COVID-19 handling. Both of Hasna’s friends initiate the Solo Lawan Corona program (Solo Fights Corona) and Nutrisi Garda Terdepan (Nutrition for the Frontline).

Currently, 18 illustrators joined the Illustrator Care project from various areas such as Yogyakarta (DIY), Makassar, Pekalongan, and Purwokerto. The segment of this program is the public in general.

The majority of donors in Illustrator Care are university students and employees. One illustration cost Rp. 50,000, for 2 face illustrations. They give a price per illustration to educate the public that illustration also has a price. As of March 24, there have been approximately 80 illustrations that have been worked on.

Hasna admitted that she and her other illustrator friends will continue receiving donations during the COVID-19 pandemic. The collected around Rp 8,000,000 which has been distributed to Nutrisi Garda Terdepan which support medical personnel’s needs; Solo Lawan Corona which supports the distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in hospitals around Surakarta, educational poster printing, and distribution of mask by Solo Lawan Corona team, and also distributed to Semarang Lawan Corona (Semarang Fights Corona). In this pandemic, Hasna wished that all parties can go through this hard time together.

“We do what we can, we perform this ikhtiar (endeavor) as best as we can. (my) Wish is that we can go through this hard time together,” Hasna hoped.
