UNS – One of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in the economics sector for the community is a reduction in income until the loss of a job. Responding to the impact caused by the pandemic, the Faculty of Sport (FKOR), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta initiates a basic food package assistance distribution. Dozens of basic food packages were distributed to the affected community in the surrounding campus area such as security staff and cleaning staff.
“There were dozens of basic food package distributed to the affected community, cleaning service, and the security staff in FKOR. Moreover, there were also kids toy for the kids in the surrounding campus area so they do not get bored while staying at home,” explains the Dean of FKOR UNS, Dr. Sapta Kunta to uns.ac.id on Tuesday (28/4/2020).
This activity is initiated by the students and lecturers with an objective to ease the burden of the community in the midst of the pandemic. On 10-13 April 2020, the students of FKOR UNS held a donation fundraising, which distributed through the faculty to buy basic food. Not only students and lecturers, but the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) FKOR also held similar activity. The distribution of this donation is conducted by delivering the basic food package directly to the residents’ house and FKOR building by considering the physical distancing protocol. The basic food packages distributed are consist of rice, sugar, cooking oil, tea, instant noodle, and syrup.
Dr. Sapta Kunta hopes that FKOR UNS will always contribute to help the COVID-19 affected community and give a positive role in a joint effort to overcome this pandemic.
“Hopefully, with this activity, we can ease the burden faced by the community. Besides that, we hope that this step taken by FKOR UNS will encourage the community to do similar actions. Our hope in the future, this will lead to broader targets,” Dr. Sapta Kunta concluded. Humas UNS/Bayu
