In Partnership with Multi-Countries Researchers, FP UNS Faculty Member Published Article in Nature Journal

UNS – The result of research conducted by a faculty member of Agribusiness Program Faculty of Agriculture (FP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Dr. Agr. Sc Ernoiz Antriyandarti is published in Nature Journal, Monday (20/4/2020). In partnership with other researchers from various countries, the FP UNS doctor, who nicknamed, Dr. Riris, represents UNS as one of the researchers who collaborate in the preparation of journal article entitled “Mapping Local Patterns of Childhood Overweight and Wasting in Low- and Middle-Income Countries Between 2000 and 2017”.

“I am greatly grateful for the opportunity to participate in several international research collaboration especially in collaboration which targeted high ranking journals such as Nature,” stated Dr. Riris in an interview with uns.ac.id, Tuesday (5/5/2020).

She stated that the desire to register as one of the researchers started from the offer to join the research. “When there is an offer of this research, I applied as a research member. By chance, a position they need is a researcher with econometric, statistics, and research modeling. So, I applied and alhamdulillah I was accepted,” she said.

The desire to be involved in international research is viewed by Dr. Riris as an opportunity to learn about quality research and writing.

When asked about the background of the preparation for the international journal article, she explained that the article aims to study the problem of malnutrition and obesity in 105 low- and medium-income countries.

“Thus, in the 105 Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) there are double problems; malnutrition and obesity, especially in children below 5 years old (toddler),” explained Dr. Riris.

In the article, Dr. Riris together with the other researchers conducted a geospatial analysis to recommend the appropriate and relevant policy to solve the problem.

Further, the lecturer in Agribusiness program stated that malnutrition and obesity in children can affect various aspects.

“Because of childhood malnutrition, both malnutrition or obesity will affect the economic, social welfare, and health of the individual, family, community/neighborhood, and a country,” she continued.

During the research, Dr. Riris stated that she used geostatistical analysis based on Bayesian model. Further, she explained that mapping with the continuous model is possible to include geolocation and covariate data which produce cellular level estimation. Then, it can be grouped and combined with intervention or geographical area that enables the researcher to formulate relevant policy.

Dr. Riris’ role in the research is also proved by providing and discussing the information on Indonesia’s condition. She also stated that her involvement is largely aimed at the analysis method design, mathematical modeling, and data analysis.

When asked about the sustainability of the research, Dr. Riris hope that the article published in Nature Journal can be used as research references in several regions in Indonesia, especially Solo Raya.

“This journal should be able to be a reference for research with a more specific scale, for example in Central Java and Solo Raya. Because in Central Java there are still cases of stunting and obesity in toddlers,” closed Dr. Riris. Humas UNS/Yefta
