UNS-The Faculty of Sports (FKOR) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta becomes the consultant for Special Sport Class (Kelas Khusus Olahraga – KKO) of Surakarta Municipality. KKO is a class for students who have a potential in the field of sport and become a medium for coaching student-athletes to be able to compete at the national and international level.
This year, FKOR UNS has returned to being the 4th KKO consultant for elementary school graduates since 2017. For the first time, this year KKO will be opened for junior high school graduates which will be conducted in SMA Negeri 4 Surakarta. In the preparation for KKO, FKOR as the consultant of KKO conducted a coordination meeting with SMA Negeri 4 Surakarta on Thursday (4/6/2020) in FKOR UNS Dean room.
The Dean of FKOR UNS, Dr. Sapta Kunta conveyed that FKOR will be committed in performing its duty as the consultant of KKO in Surakarta Municipality. “Besides performing education, we don’t want to be an ivory tower, because one of the FKOR missions is crafting sports professionals who know the concept and know-how to exercise. The point is when there is early coaching, conceptually, it can be implemented in KKO,” Dr. Sapta Kunta stated.
The class aimed at the 13 branches of sport, taekwondo, pencak silat, karate, athletic, swimming, field tennis, table tennis, archery, volleyball, soccer, fencing, and judo. The KKO handled by FKOR UNS has bright achievements.
“The class for elementary school graduates has entered the fourth year, the KKO students that we handle has a significant contribution. As many as 40% of Central Java trainees are the result of KKO that we handle,” he conveyed.
The KKO is distinguished into two levels, the first level is for the elementary school graduates which are conducted in SMP Negeri 1 Surakarta. For the junior high school graduates will be conducted in SMA Negeri 4 Surakarta. There was high interest from KKO registrant from the first time it was opened, while the class does not provide large quota. Therefore, there is a selection process to choose the students will the best potential in sports and academics.
“We are not only collaborating with the Sports Office, but also the Education Office. So, for example, there are prospective participants who have good sports achievements but their academic performance does not meet the criteria, so we do not pass them. Because, in sports, there is a slogan that affective, skills and cognitive must be good, so we help in that direction,” Dr. Sapta Kunta added.
He also expected that as the consultant of KKO, education from sport achievement coaching must be systematic and sustainable.
Through KKO, students who passed the examination are expected to be able to excel in sports and academia. So that in the spirit of sportsmanship and democracy in sports can be applied in daily life. Humas UNS/Bayu
