UNS Selects Representative for KDMI

UNS – Preparing for the representative for regional level Indonesian Student Debate Competition (Kompetisi Debat Mahasiswa Indonesia – KDMI), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta open a selection for UNS students from Friday (17/7/2020) to Sunday (19/7/2020). Selection events are conducted online through the Zoom Meeting application.

The Vice-Rector for Student and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo stated that this competition employs Asian Parliamentary System in which each team consists of three speakers and in each session, there will be two opposing teams, the government team who will agree to the debate motion and the opposition team who will turn down the debate motion. Seventeen teams from faculty representative and independent teams participated in the selection process. This time, the teams take street names as their team names such as Asia Afrika, Perintis Kemerdekaan, Kenanga, and Agung Timur.

In the first day of the selection process, the teams were debating to determine eight teams that will go to the quarter-final. The eight teams that passed the selection in the first day are Jalan Kenanga, Perintis Kemerdekaan, Agung Timur, Sisingamaraja, Gajah Mada, Asia Afrika, Ir. Soetami, and Olahraga. The eight teams debated on the third day to win a ticket to enter the semi-finals.

After jury panel discussion and debate on the second day, Saturday (18/7/2020) four teams were selected to enter the semi-final stage. These four teams are Jalan Kenanga and Jalan Agung Timur which are the independent teams, and two representatives from Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan and representative from the Faculty of Engineering (FT), Jalan Asia Afrika.

The last day of the selection process, Sunday (19/7/2020), two sessions were held concurrently, semi-final and final rounds. The semi-final round was broadcasted in Instagram @minalwa_uns and @sef11maret official accounts. Two teams, Jalan Asia Afrika and Agung Timur went to the final round which is aired in UNS YouTube channel, while Jalan Kenanga and Perintis Kemerdekaan went to around to determine the third place.

The winner of the selection is Jalan Agung Timur which consists of Elli Setiangsih, Dwi Wahyu Ahmad Fauzi, and Mochamad Charis. Jalan Asia Afrika which consists of Dwi Setyo Sulistyono, Evonella Pangaribua, and Irfan Nurdiansah, won the second place, and Jalan Kenanga which consists of Nurul Aini Choiriyah, Zalfaa Azalia Pursita, and Ilyas Abdurrahim, won the third place.

UNS representative was selected form the best speakers; Dwi Putri Jeng Ivo, Nurul Aida Fitriani, Farah Yuki Prasetyawati, Hilda Anugrah Putri, Rizal Galih Pradana, and Alifia Nur Maftukhah Yuliana. The six students will go through another selection process to determine the best three speakers that will represent UNS.
