UNS Signs MoU with Unsyiah on Tri Dharma for Higher Education Institution

UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a signatory for Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universitas Syiah Kuala (Unsyiah) Banda Aceh related to the implementation of Tri Dharma for Higher Education Institution, Tuesday (22/7/2020). The signatory was conducted through the online Zoom Cloud Meeting, attended by the Rector from both universities.

During the occasion, the MoU was signed directly by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, and the Rector of Unsyiah, Prof. Samsul Rizal. Prof. Jamal mentioned that due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the MoU signatory was held online, “Even though, physically we are afar, but we are close to the heart,” says Prof. Jamal during his remark.

Prof. Jamal hopes that through this MoU, the relationship between UNS and Unsyiah can be better, especially in terms of Tri Dharma activities in education, research, and community engagement.

Referring to the grand scheme of the Minister of Education and Culture in the ‘Kampus Merdeka’ program, universities have to open to any parties. For instance, university to university, university to bureaucrats, university to the business sector, and university to industry. This mainly to improve the output quality of the university.

“Hopefully, this MoU will not stand as a ceremonial only but can deliver a real outcome. Like a marriage that will give birth to a superior generation. I wish that UNS can contribute to Unsyiah and vice versa,” says Prof. Jamal.

Meanwhile, the Rector of Unsyiah, Prof. Samsul Rizal adds that it becomes a pride for Unsyiah to be able to work with UNS. “Hopefully in the future, we can exchange students and academic members. It could also be that during this ongoing pandemic, UNS lecturers taught online at Unsyiah and vice versa. Or it could also be carried out in the form of training for Unsyiah students or lecturers,” Prof. Samsul declares.

Prof. Samsul also wishes that there will be further research collaboration between Unsyiah and UNS. “Especially now, UNS journal publication in Scopus indexed journal is higher than Unsyiah, allow us to learn from UNS to increase our Scopus publication,” he concluded. Humas UNS
