UNS – In commemorating the 44th anniversary of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta Faculty of Agriculture (FP) UNS held a National Webinar on “Food Resilience Strategy in the Covid-19 New Normal” through Zoom Clouds Meeting and YouTube live stream in Faculty of Agriculture YouTube channel, Wednesday (22/7/2020).
The seminar was opened by the Vice-Rector for Partnership and Planning Affairs UNS, Prof. Dr.rer.nat Sajidan. In his opening remark, Prof. Sajidan stated that food resilience strategy is vital in maintaining the supply of foods in the new normal era and especially in the current pandemic. He added that food availability closely related to state stability. Therefore, UNS always commit to encouraging the acceleration of national food resilience through various academic activities, research, and community services. This seminar is a form of dissemination of research and community service activities in agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, forestry and agricultural technology, as a means to exchange information and ideas while building cooperation among stakeholders to realize food security in Indonesia Indonesia.
The Faculty of Agriculture Chief for UNS Anniversary, Dr. Joko Riyanto stated that the national seminar is a series of events held in FP UNS to commemorate UNS 44th Anniversary. He added that other events have been conducted such as the green walk and FP UNS family gathering in March. The National Seminar, Chief Executive, Dr. Dimas Rahadian Aji Muhammad added that the national seminar was shifted into online seminar considering the pandemic. The seminar was initially scheduled to be held on April under the theme of “Integrated and Sustainable Agro-Maritime to Maintain National Food Resilience”. However, due to the pandemic, the seminar was delayed and was held through online media without reducing its intended contents.
Four keynote speakers were invited to deliver a speech on the strategy that can be implemented by agro complex sector (animal husbandry, fisheries, and agriculture) to achieve food security, especially in this period and after Covid-19 and how the challenges and strategies of the university as an agricultural education institution to be able to play an active role in sustaining food security. The invited speakers are Prof. Dr. Sc. Agr. Suyadi (The Forum for Indonesian Animal Husbandry Higher Education Leaders), Dr. Luky Adrianto (The Forum for Indonesian Fisheries and Maritime Higher Education Leaders), Dr. Jamhari (Communication Forum for Indonesian Agriculture Higher Education), and Prof. Dr. Samanhudi (Dean of FP UNS).
Prof. Suntoro stated that this seminar will become the initial stepping stone in establishing the Communication Forum for Indonesia Agro-Complex Higher Education which includes agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, forestry, and agricultural technology. The seminar was attended by participants who presented their research or community services results from universities and researchers in Indonesia. The papers presented fall into eight sub-themes, among others, land and water resources, human resources and institutions, animal husbandry, socioeconomic agriculture, food security and resilience, crop and post-harvest production technology, management of plant pests, and forest and ecotourism resources.
