UNS – Agrotechnology Student Forum (Format), Faculty of Agriculture (FP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a webinar on Career Path, in collaboration with Sinarmas Agribusiness and Food. The event was held on Thursday (23/7/2020) through the Zoom meeting and YouTube live streaming in the Format FP UNS channel. Four speakers were present during the event, Raden Syah Subanjari, Rendy Nataprawira, Jimmi Setiawan, and Yohannes Widiarso from Sinarmas.
The webinar is part of the Agrotech’s Fair and was attended by 280 participants from various universities in Indonesia. The first speaker, Yohannes Widiarso, presented the company profile and career overview in the palm oil industry.
“Sinarmas group is a corporation engaged in agribusiness and food production, its products are not only limited to palm oil. Indeed, the main commodity is oil palm because it is sustainable and innovations can be made to sustain food. There are many palm oil products such as shampoo, toothpaste, detergents, soap, and even clothes to skincare. In addition, there are also margarine, candy, creamer, jelly, snacks, and biscuits that are also processed palm oil,” he explains.
Meanwhile, Raden Syah Subanjari, provides directives regarding career preparation. If fresh graduates are still worried about career options, they can follow management training. There are two types of management training. In the first type, a trainee is given the option to choose several divisions, where they are required to complete a project, and then, the company will choose the proper division for the trainee based on the result. The second type is provided in the form of briefing a specialist field-specific to developing a person’s competency in a particular field.
To support the program, the third speaker, Jimmi Setiawan shares the tips on preparing Curriculum Vitae (CV). A CV is a personal branding tool for someone, a person with a favorable CV has a bigger opportunity to follow the further step in the job application process.
“Make sure that it contains basic information such as name, contact, education, positive aspects, and various skills such as certification and many others. You can also provide a short profile to describe your personality and hobbies. All information written in the CV must be a piece of factual information and is not fake or manipulation. Create a unique CV that is easy to read, do not flashing content, and do not copy and paste from the template on the website,” he shares.
Jimmi also explained what things had to be prepared in the face of a job interview at the end of the session. “Before the interview, look for as much information as possible, wear professional outfits, practice on how to introduce yourself, and answer questions. Then understand yourself, especially regarding your own weaknesses and strengths, prepare also for technical matters such as theses, graduate bases, to the part that will be applied,” he concluded.
