UNS — To commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia (RI), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held online inter-religions ‘Tirakatan’ (holding up) with ‘Inter-Religion Collaboration in Achieving Indonesia Maju (developed Indonesia)’. This event was conducted on Sunday (16/7/2020) through Zoom Cloud Meeting and live stream in UNS YouTube channel which is joined by more than 100 UNS academic members.
The event was opened by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho who in his remark mentioned that the event has two main objectives, as a means to communicate in maintaining inter-religion togetherness and harmony that has long established in UNS and to commemorate Indonesia 75th Independence Day Anniversary. Prof. Jamal also reminded that differences should be used to strengthen national unity and integrity.
“Let’s use the differences as a power of unity and integrity. Let’s use the momentum of Independence Day as a day to increase our collective commitment. Indonesia needs brave and respectful young generation,” Prof. Jamal stated.
Led by Aiman Hilmi, the event continued with speeches from UNS student associations started from the representative of the Muslim community, Alvin Almayaza. Followed by the representative from Confucians by Margareta Helen; Catholics by Antonius Sangga Namitulu; Christian by David Rajid; Hindu by Esa Putri; and Buddhist by Wilson. After the representative from each religion in Indonesia delivered their speech, the event continued with a speech from KH. Dr. Miftah Faqih as Khatib Syuriah Pengurus Besar Nahdatul Ulama (PBNU), followed by a pledge of harmony from UNS students and prayer by Imam Arifin as UNS Outstanding Student for Undergraduate level 2020.
