Deputy Governor of BI Teaches at UNS

UNS — As a Bank Indonesia (BI) Mengajar 2020 (Bank Indonesia Teaching) series, the Central Bank of Indonesia held BI Mengajar general lecture in Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) through Zoom Cloud Meeting, Friday (15/8/2020). In the occasion, the material was delivered by a special person of BI, Doni Primanto Joewono who was installed as the Deputy Governor of BI and an alumnus of Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNS. The event took a theme of “The Role of Bank Indonesia as Central Bank in Economics and Financial Digitalization for Developed Indonesia”. The event was held by Bank Indonesia in collaboration with Undergraduate Program in Development Economics FEB UNS and Center for Fintech and Bank UNS (UNS Fintech Center). Dr. Intan Novela QA took a role as the moderator who directed the course of the event attended by UNS students, faculty members, and Bank Indonesia scholarship awardees (GenBI) chapter Solo.

In his opening remark, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, representing UNS academic members congratulated Doni Primanto Joewono for his installation as Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia. It is such a pride for UNS that one of its best alumni, for the first time held a prestigious seat as Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia.

“UNS now has the Center for Excellence (PUI) Center for Fintech and Banking which is expected to build a synergy with the industry and regulator, including BI particularly in research, innovation, and education surrounding the digital economy,” Prof. Jamal explained.

Opening his general lecture, Doni explained the BI objectives, duties, and roles as a central bank. According to the law, BI objectives are to achieve and maintain the stability of the rupiah value, while its duties and roles consist of monetary policy, macroprudential policy, and payment system policy. He also discussed the economic development and digital finance, including the impact of Covid-19 pandemic in the digital acceleration and BI roles and policy responses in the digital era. Concluding his material, Doni shared the opportunity of pursuing a career in BI. He conveyed that currently, UNS graduates only represent 1% of total BI employees.
