UNS — Indonesian Pharmacist Association (Ikatan Apoteker Indonesia – IAI) launched DAGUSIBU (Dapatkan, Gunakan, Simpan, dan Buang – Get, Use, Store, Dispose) program of medicine as a form of education that pharmacists must provide to patients or the public. However, there are many members of the community who have not to understand the proper and correct usage of drugs.
Therefore, education and dissemination of information concerning drugs and its usage to the community are needed. Metabolic Disorders Research Group from the Undergraduate Program in Pharmacy Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta take a part in educating the community by setting up Pharmacy Corner in Taman Cerdas Soekarno-Hatta Jebres (TCSHJ), Surakarta since last August.
Under the theme “Movement for Smart Society in Using Drugs through Pharmacy Corner in Taman Cerdas Soekarno Hatta” and led by Yeni Farida, S.Farm., M.Sc., Apt, this community service program has a series of activities. One of the things that have been done is the introduction of basic medicine and medicine classifications that must be available at home as the First Aid kit.
“The team considers this as an important topic considering the low community knowledge on the use of drugs especially during an emergency as first aid at home,” Yeni mentioned in a release received by uns.ac.id, Saturday (5/9/2020).
The team that consists of Rasmaya Niruri S.Si., M. Farm.Klin, Adi Yugatama S.Farm., M.Sc., Apt, and Fea Prihapsara S.Farm., M.Sc. as Faculty Member of Pharmacy Program UNS, and Siti Mar’ufah from Faculty of Medical Science (FK), also prepared education media in the form of comic or children storybook and animated cartoon videos.
The comic tells a story of little pharmacist that aims to introduce the pharmacist profession to the community and children in particular. Especially when pharmacists provide education about drug use. The video also tells a story from comic. The media is selected to attract community interest, particularly children.
TCSHJ is elected by the team because the park has a mission to become a means to play and learn, develop children potential and creativity, and an education spot for children. But currently, the park only provides education in the field of arts, communication, and information technology, and has not provided the education in health. Thus, according to Yeni, this park should be utilized to provide knowledge for children, including in the topic of health. Yeni also added that through pharmacy corner, she and her team do not only educate the community about drugs and its use but also about general and specific theme surrounding health, including about Covid-19.
