UNS — The Agricultural Extension & Communication Student Association (HM Pelita), the Faculty of Agriculture (FP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta shares the tips in preparing oneself in applying for a job. In this event, the HM Pelita invites three speakers with career development expertise. The speakers are Moh. Abdul Aziz Nawawi, M.Pd., a book author, Nanda Rizky Kurniawan the founder of ‘Liputan Kerja’, and Aditiyo Indrasanto a career consultant.
Aditiyo states that a student should not only concerned with the Grade Point Average (GPA) but also need to find many experiences. This is because the experience will affect students’ Curriculum Vitae (CV) that will be needed during the job application process. “Our CV needs to reflect out inner-personal, interpersonal, action, and objective. We should have the mindset to keep on learning and not afraid to fail. In the interpersonal aspect, we should not only rely on GPA but we also need to establish communication with other people, networking, and teamwork. Lastly, do not expect a perfect plan and hopes the plan can be implemented perfectly,” he explains.
During the online event on Saturday (12/9/2020) through Zoom Meeting, Aditiyo also explains the characteristic of a good CV namely relevance, content design, and landing page. “Our CV must be tailored to the needs of consumers when applying for certain fields, the CV must contain the relevant experience. Moreover, do not only focus on the design, but the content of the CV also needs to be elaborated. The landing page or the first thing that people see must be interesting, thus the people will be interested to see more,” he explained further.
Following the first speaker, Moh. Abdul Aziz Nawawi delivers the things that normally become a prerequisite to be accepted in a job application, namely skill and experience, strong will, and honesty. In the last session, Nanda Rizky explains the aspects that need to be prepared in entering the job market. “Usually there is administrative selection, psychological-test, and interview. Administrative selection is the part where the Human Resource Development (HRD) selecting files starting from CV, cover letter, and other supporting files. Before applying, make sure to check the job requirements and complete the requested files,” he explains.
Moreover, he also explains the aspects that should be included in a CV such as a photo, profile, bio, expertise, experience, education, and accomplishments. “In the photo, our portrait must face the camera and do not shows excessive pose. Then make sure the profile displays abilities that match the position being applied for. The bio section is filled with contact, email, domicile, place of birth date, this will facilitate the interviewer during the interview process. In the experience section, ensure a neat arrangement from newest to oldest and tell a little about the job description while working at the company or when joining an organization,” he explains. “Lastly, ensure our CV has interesting visual and helping the HRD in reading and selecting the applicants’ CV,” he concluded.
