UNS — The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho inaugurated mosque and public space in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA). The mosque and public space inauguration coincided with the 24th Anniversary of FMIPA UNS, Friday (2/10/2020).
Prof. Jamal stated that FMIPA UNS is one of the faculties in UNS which can be considered young, with 24 years old. Nevertheless, FMIPA UNS achievements are admirable. FMIPA is one of the main supporters in UNS ranking. This is proved, one of which is, from the number of faculty members with the doctoral degree with 53% from the total of faculty members in FMIPA.
“Happy 24th Anniversary FMIPA,” Prof. Jamal stated in the middle of mosque and public space inauguration in FMIPA UNS.
Prof. Jamal highly appreciates FMIPA UNS that builds a mosque using independent funds. “This is excellent, FMIPA builds mosque from donations from its academia. They did not ask for funding from UNS. The mosque has a good design, it has a lot of windows and good air circulation,” Prof. Jamal added.
Prof. Jamal hopes FMIPA mosque will increase the number of religious activities at the faculty level and can be put for good use. Concerning the open space in FMIPA, Prof. Jamal stated that it is a good step to be taken to facilitate academia in discussing and to display products created by FMIPA faculty members and students.
The Dean of FMIPA UNS, Harjana, Ph.D added that FMIPA UNS mosque has a capacity of 247 people in the pandemic, and can accommodate more than 500 people in non-pandemic condition. “During Friday prayer, it can accommodate students, staffs, and faculty members in FMIPA UNS. The upper part is used for male congregations and the lower floor for female congregations,” Harjana, Ph.D. stated.
The mosque management is handed to the Takmir Masjid (mosque manager) that consists of all program managers in FMIPA. “For religious activities, then for students to take a break while waiting for their classes, reciting, study, and other positive activities,” Harjana, Ph.D. added.
Concerning the public space in FMIPA, Harjana Ph.D hopes that it can be best utilized. “It can be used for discussion, to sell products from FMIPA academia by selling healthy foods and beverages,” Harjana, Ph.D. concluded. Humas UNS
