UNS — The Research Group of Special Education Management of Special Education Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta successfully launched the Identification System for Children with Special Needs (Sistem Identifikasi Anak Berkebutuhan Khusus – Sebelas Maret – SI-ABK SEMAR). This system is an identification system for children with special needs (Anak Berkebutuhan Khusus – ABK) developed in digital format to facilitate identification and assessment process.
The Head of Research Group, Dr. Subagya, stated that this group has five members, Prof. Dr. Ravik Karsidi, M.S., Prof. Dr. Munawir Yusuf, M.Psi., Priyono, M.Pd., Erma Kumala Sari, M.Psi., Psikolog, and Arsy Anggrellanggi, M.Pd. Dr. Subagya stated that this system will assist the school in the identification and assessment process for ABK, which aims to collect comprehensive data that will be used in preparing learning plans and intervention for ABK in school. The SI-ABK SEMAR Program can be accessed in http://siabk-semar.com/ website. This program is developed to provide an easy-to-use instrument for teachers in School for Children with Special Needs (Sekolah Luar Biasa – SLB).
“The curriculum in SLB is based on assessment, but teachers still find difficulties to prepare the instrument of assessment identification, implement assessment identification, and analyze the result of assessment identification. Therefore, the community service team develop an instrument that is easy-to-use for teachers through SI-ABK SEMAR. This product has been registered for a patent by the team. Socialization is needed to introduce SI-ABK to SLB teachers,” Dr. Subagya, who is also the Head of Special Education program, explained, Monday (9/11/2020).
Dr. Subagya added that the identification and assessment of ABK are important stages that should be held comprehensively so that ABK can receive appropriate treatment according to their conditions and needs. In the context of education, the identification and assessment processes are the parts of a teacher’s duties and responsibilities before planning a learning program for students with special needs. Therefore, the accuracy of identification and assessment result becomes an important basis and require special attention from teachers. This is important so that teachers can determine learning plans that are appropriate for students as a form of treatment for them.
The Research Group also held a community services program concerning the identification and assessment of ABK for SLB and inclusive schools in Central Java. This program aims to provide assistance for school assessors in conducting digital-based identification of ABK at school using SI-ABK SEMAR from Saturday (30/5/2020) to Wednesday (10/6/2020). The event was attended by 60 representatives of public and private SLBs and several inclusive schools in Central Java. The event was held online through Zoom Meeting application. With this assistance, it is expected that SLB teachers can conduct identification on ABK ins SLB. Particularly, digital-based identification using SI-ABK SEMAR so that teachers can adapt to the development of science and technology. Humas UNS
