UNS — Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held International Visual Art Exhibition Multi Frame #2 under the theme “Bringing Diversity into Harmony in Virtual World”, broadcasted online through Zoom Cloud Meeting, Monday (23/11/2020).
In this international exhibition, 171 artists from 15 countries, including Malaysia, Mexico, Canada, Armenia, Japan, and Indonesia, displayed their best works for visitors and curators. The curators invited by FSRD UNS to assess and criticize each artwork exhibited in this event are Dr. Shamsu Mohamad from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Prof. Setiawan Sabana from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), and MA. Helena Hoskova from the Czech Republic.
The exhibition was opened by the Dean of FSRD UNS, Dr. Rahmanu Widayat. In his remark, he appreciated the managing committee of International Visual Art Exhibition Multi Frame #2, who have prepared the program carefully. Dr. Rahmanu Widayat stated that the event initiated by the Fine Arts Program FSRD UNS is a prestigious annual event. Therefore, he considers that all participants should be proud and get a proper appreciation for their works.
“This exhibition shows that participants deserve appreciation and critics. This also counts as an individual award for artists who participate as a response to the current condition which interprets the advancement in visual media,” Dr. Rahmanu Widayat stated.
On this occasion, a Faculty Member from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Dr. Shamsu Mohamad, also delivered his remark. He conveyed his gratitude to be invited as one of the curators in the International Visual Art Exhibition Multi Frame #2 this year. “This is a valuable opportunity for me to participate in this prestigious event, which is held amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The Multi Frame, which is followed by many young people, represents togetherness spirit and team hard work,” he stated. As a curator, he also delivered his wish that FSRD UNS and USM can build a close partnership on another occasion. Not only through event management but also in the field of research and scientific publication.
Separately, the Head of Fine Arts Program FSRD UNS, Dr. Setyo Budi, explained that 2020 is the second International Visual Art Exhibition Multi Frame with the first exhibition held in 2017 in Yogyakarta. He also explained that in the International Visual Art Exhibition Multi Frame #2, the committee divided national participants into four categories. These categories are national artists, artists from university faculty members from various institutes, public participants, and university students. “All participants went through curator selection even though several invited artists did not go through the curation process,” Dr. Setyo Budi explained.
With the implementation of this international exhibition, Dr. Setyo Budi hopes that the Fine Arts Program UNS can be recognized internationally and expand networking with other universities. “We hope to introduce the Fine Arts Program at the international level, and this is also a form of our concern during the pandemic. We want this (exhibition) to motivate students, and future plan in the policy to develop collaboration and networking in the field of arts among universities,” Dr. Setyo Budi conveyed. Humas UNS
