UNS Students Create Solenoid Electric Machine Based on Electric Actuator Innovation for Environmentally Friendly Vehicles

UNS — The team of Student Creativity Program for Innovation (Tim Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa Karsa Cipta – PKM-KC) from Universitas Seblas Maret (UNS) Surakarta led by Muhammad Alwi Zahidan from Physics Program Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) Class of 2017 and two members, Abiyansyah Putra Pratama from Physics Program FMIPA 2017 and Zakiudin Fahril Asyhar from Physics Program FMIPA 2018 created an innovation of Solenoid Electric Machine based on Electric Actuator as Propulsion of Environmentally Friendly Vehicles with Conventional Engine Concept. Under the supervision of FMIPA Faculty Member Artono Dwijo Sutomo, S.Si., M.Si, the team successfully passed the selection to join the 33rd National Student Scientific Week (Pekan Ilmiah Mahasiswa Nasional – Pimnas) 2020.

Muhammad Alwi Zahidan stated that motorized vehicles are the primary means of transportation used currently. Almost all motorized vehicles on the roads use oil or fossil fuel, which continuously decreases because of massive and continuous usage. Conventional motorized vehicles produced exhaust gas, which is harmful to health and the environment by increasing air pollution. “Innovation is needed for conventional motorized vehicles to make it more environmentally friendly. The use of motorized vehicles powered by electrical energy is one of the solutions for existing problems. Electrical energy is used because it is renewable and will not deplete because there are many new findings on the renewable power supply using geothermal, solar cells, or with water flow,” Alwi explained.

Alwi added that electric motorized vehicles are developed to solve the existing issues and to meet the need for electrical means of transportation. However, most electric machines in the market are currently imported from other countries at a relatively high price. Therefore, further innovation is needed the create economical price and environmentally friendly means of transportation. “Conventional electric machine based on the solenoid is a form of solutions to overcome the issues of environmentally friendly means of transportation, and by modifying fossil fuel vehicles into electric fueled vehicles, people do not need to purchase a new electric vehicle,” Alwi added.

The implementation of Solenoid Electric Machine is expected to produce low-priced electric vehicles and solve environmental problems, reduce the dependence on the depleted fossil fuel, promote the economy, and become a trigger for others to innovate further in the electric machine using a conventional concept.
