UNS — The students of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) won another championship in Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Games in the National Scientific Poster category. The UNS team was consist of Nugroho Hasan from Agricultural Extension & Communication Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture (FP) class of 2018, Yokanang Chandra Arfiansyah from Science Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) class of 2018, and Syifa Afanin Azzah Ciptasari from Psychology Study Program, Faculty of Medical Science (FK) class of 2018.
During the virtual competition, the team succeeded in winning third place. Syifa states that the competition was divided into two stages namely the elimination stage and final. In the elimination stage, their submitted work was selected as one of the top 10 posters with the highest score. Meanwhile, in the final stage, the teams selected as finalists must present their creation.
The poster created by the UNS team is entitled ‘Medication-Independent School: Adiwiyata School Identity Strengthening Through Medicine Independent School Program for Teenage Red Cross Organization in SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Surakarta.’ Syifa explains that their poster refers to Family Medicinal Plants (Toga) products.
“In this poster, we bring up the topic on Toga plants, which famous for the simple and traditional process for household production. People can easily produce them at home and consume them, thus strengthening their immunity. Therefore, we try to involve the youth generation to learn how to cultivate and process Toga plants, as well as disseminate the importance of maintaining immunity through Toga product,” Syifa explains in an interview with uns.ac.id on Saturday (26/12/2020).
Under the supervision of Eksa Rusdiyana, S.P., M.Sc., the preparation, which took a week, won third place on Saturday (19/12/2020). The poster itself is a follow-up from their Student Creativity Program (PKM) proposal. “It starts as a follow-up from our PKM idea, which was funded by the Belmawa Dikti. Unfortunately, our team is not selected for presentation in the National Student Scientific Week (Pimnas) 2020. Thus the PKM program becomes our inspiration in preparing this poster,” Syifa explains.
Nearing the submission deadline, Syifa and her teammates misunderstood the submission deadline for the poster. “We thought the deadline was on 23.59, but it was on 20.00 Western Indonesia Time. Knowing this we were rushed to finish the poster. However, after knowing that there was still enough time to complete our poster, we collaborate to finish the poster. Alhamdulillah, we can finish our poster on time and can submit the result at the appropriate time,” Syifa explains.
In the future, Syifa and friends hope that their team can continue their achievement and become beneficial to the surrounding community. “Hopefully, after this competition, we can continue to work and serve the country by spreading benefits and kindness to the surrounding environment and the greater public,” Syifa concluded.
