UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta postponed hybrid learning implementation in the even semester (February – July 2021). This postponement was announced in UNS Rector Circular Number: 1/UN27/SE/2021 concerning Hybrid Learning’s Postponement in the even semester of 2020/2021 dated 5 January 2021.
The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho stated that UNS had prepared hybrid learning (offline and online learning) implementation in the even semester (February – July 2021), especially for the students of Undergraduate degree (S1) who will enter their second semester and students who will complete their final assignment. To realize the implementation of the hybrid learning system, UNS has issued Rector Circular Number 73/UN27/SE/2020 dated 16 December 2020 concerning The Guidelines to Administer the Even Semester Learning in 2020/2021 Academic Year. The university also has conducted socialization to all faculty executive board, programs, faculty members, and students. Offline or face-to-face learning is optional, meaning both faculty members and students can choose preferred learning models between offline and online learning. Academic preparation regarding lectures scheduling, selecting courses, assigning teachers, and readiness of learning facilities have been arranged in such a way by prioritizing health protocols determined by the government. The university also held coordination with the Task Force for the Acceleration of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Handling in Surakarta, Health Team from the Faculty of Medical Science and UNS Hospital.
However, through the Chief of Task Force for the Acceleration of Covid-19 Handling Surakarta, the Municipal Government of Surakarta suggested that UNS postpone the implementation of face-to-face or offline learning considering the high level of Covid-19 infection in Central Java. “UNS has prepared hybrid learning by considering the Joint Decree from the Minister of Education and Culture, Minister of Religious Affairs, Minister of Health, and Minister of Home Affairs, and Circular from the Directorate General of Higher Education Kemendikbud RI Number 6 of 2020 regarding the Implementation of Learning in the Even Semester of 2020/2021 Academic Year. We also have applied a permit to the Chief of Task Force for the Acceleration of Covid-19 Handling Surakarta to implement hybrid learning. However, the Task Force for the Acceleration of Covid-19 Handling Surakarta suggested to postpone (the implementation of hybrid learning),” Prof. Jamal explained on Thursday (7/1/2021).
Therefore, UNS will follow the Chief of Task Force for the Acceleration of Covid-19 Handling Surakarta suggestion and requirement to postpone and review the implementation of hybrid learning while waiting for the development of Covid-19 infection. “UNS will continue conducting online learning process,” Prof. Jamal added.
In the UNS Rector Circular Number: 1/UN27/SE/2021, all learning activities for theoretical courses will be held online. Classes with practices will be held online as much as possible, except for Medicine Education and Midwifery Program practices that can be conducted offline by implementing strict health protocols and received a permit from the dean. The Final Semester Exam will be determined by each faculty/postgraduate/vocational school by considering the specialties and held online. Research activities in the laboratory or the field can be held offline by implementing strict health protocols and receiving a permit from the dean. As for research involving community activities such as surveys, a license from the Local Government of the research location is required. Humas UNS
