UNS — Two students of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta achieve another national accomplishment. These students are Bayu Aji Prasetya and Jahabidz Marha Shoffiyah Al-Afiah from the Indonesian Language and Literature Program Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB) UNS. Bayu and Jahabidz won 2nd place in Indonesia Young Leader Summit (IYLS) National Videography Competition held by the Student Association (UKM) PIK-R Cakra UNS on November 2020.
In the competition that raised the theme of Youth’s Role in Preventing Sexual Violence and Bullying, the two UNS students submitted a story on catcalling and bullying in the community. To uns.ac.id, Jahabidz, or Alfi said that through their video, they want to deliver a simple message that sexual violence exists and often goes unnoticed. Alfi also said that sexism often showed in daily jokes. “That is why we took the concept and theme from our surroundings. As simple as catcalling or negative comments that lead to the sexual notion and affect one’s condition,” he said on Tuesday (19/1/2021).
The video scenario is Bayu and Alfi’s original idea developed into a 6-minutes-24-second video. They had a quick preparation for the preparation of scenario, draft, shooting, and video editing without assistance from external parties. Their hard work was paid off when they were announced as the 2nd winner in the competition. Alfi said that he is delighted with the result because his competitors submitted great works. “Considering our preparation which we consider less maximum, but the result exceeds our expectation,” he said.
Before concluding the interview, Alfi hopes that he can continue creating and benefits other people. Their video wants to deliver simple messages to educate and raise others’ awareness of sexual violence and bullying surrounding them. He also hopes that UNS will continue encouraging and appreciating its students who accomplish and motivate other students to achieve similar accomplishments. Humas UNS
