UNS — In 2021 the Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta set a target to get fifteen percent of its study programs to get international accreditation and certification. This target is in line with the 8 (eight) Main Performance Indicators (IKU) that become the basis for higher education transformation. The Chairman of the Institute of Educational Quality Assurance and Development (LPPMP) UNS, Prof. Sarwiji Suwandi states that, following the IKU number 8, each study program must have international standards and receive international accreditation.
“This year, we targetted to get 15 study programs accredited or certified internationally, specifically the Diploma and Undergraduate programs,” Prof. Sarwiji reveals on Friday (29/1/2021).
Currently, UNS has 179 study programs in total comprised of Diploma level, Undergraduate/Bachelor, Master, Doctoral, and Specialist Doctors and Professional study program. Out of the 179 study programs, 86.36% of the Undergraduate/Bachelor programs are accredited with A rating, 45.65% of the Master programs are accredited with A rating, 25% of the Doctoral programs are accredited with an A rating, 78.57% of Specialist Doctors and Professional Programs are accredited with A, and 39.13% of the Diploma programs are accredited with A.
Prof. Sarwiji added that several programs in UNS have been accredited or certified at the international level. The Bachelor Program in Management, Bachelor Program in Biology, Civil Engineering Bachelor Program, Mechanical Engineering Bachelor Program, Agribusiness Bachelor Program, Development Economic Bachelor Program, Bachelor Program in Law, and Special Education Bachelor Program already has international certification from the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA). Meanwhile, the Bachelor Program in Industrial Engineering and Bachelor Program in Chemical Engineering both has international accreditation from The Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (IABEE). As for the Master Program in Management, it has international accreditation from The Alliance on Business Education and Scholarship for Tomorrow, a 21st Century Organization (ABEST21).
“For 2021, there are many programs that apply for international accreditation/certification,” he added.
The LPPMP UNS always encourages the Program accredited with two consecutive A ratings to apply for international accreditation/certification. Meanwhile, for those with B rating accreditation, if the programs are ready, LPPMP also encourages them to apply for international accreditation/certification.
“Support from all stakeholders in UNS is needed. This includes a synergy and collaboration among the university leaders, LPPMP, Faculty Dean, Head of Study Program, Academic Staff, Academic Support Staff, Students, and alumni,” Prof. Sarwiji reveals.
Getting an international accreditation and certification will have many advantages. “This accreditation will show the service quality in UNS. Because the campus provides excellent service, the alumni will also have good quality. Graduates will gain community trust and of course, UNS graduates will be increasingly valued,” he concluded.
