UNS — Team 141 of Student Community Service Program (KKN) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta initiated the tree planting, bipore creation, and trash can distribution in their community service program in Gedongan Village, Colomadu Subdistrict, Karanganyar District. In an interview with uns.ac.id on Saturday (27/2/2021), Team 141 KKN leader, Adityaputra Dewantara, stated that the program aims to help the community manage their village open field as their activity center. The biopore acts as water infiltration created by making a hole in the soil with a certain depth. The hole is then filled with organic waste as cover. This infiltration hole is usually made in places that hard to absorb water.
“The village field is selected as the program implementation site considering its role as one of community activity centers, such as football, staple food distribution, and other activities. The field is also a place for the villagers to socialize and relax,” the student of the Indonesian Language and Literature Program explained.
In the program, the villagers also participated in creating the biopore and preparing the needed tools. Some villagers were curious about the process because most of them have a drainage issue and want to apply it at home. One of the villagers explained that the field often collect water due to drainage problem and water cannot flow smoothly into the drainage. “Hopefully, the biopore will become a solution for this problem,” Eko, a villager in Gedhongan Village, stated.
The team also plans to install several trash cans around the field because it often packed with football team supporters during a match. Twenty-five guava trees and Lavender were also planted around the area. Adit hoped that the program would help the villagers to solve the problems faced by the villagers by taking care of the environment. Humas UNS
