UNS Students Accomplishment in PHOCO Genbi Unair

UNS — Three students from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta successfully brought home achievements in National Creative Video Competition PHOCO held by New Indonesian Generation (Generasi Baru Indonesia – Genbi) Universitas Airlangga (Unair) Surabaya. Under the theme of Never-Ending Inspiration in New Normal, the competition was held online.

The three UNS students are Muhammad Arif Ilham Fadillah from Special Education Program 2018, Raditya Yoke from Sociology Program 2018, and Khalifah Imam Ali from Information Technology Program 2018. They won third place in the prestigious competition with their three-minute video titled Terus Berusaha (keep trying). The video tells the story of a journalist who interviewed an inspirative ice seller. Amid the pandemic, the merchant continues his job even with dropped sales. The footage shared that pandemic does not hinder someone from doing good and productive activities.

“It is a coincidence that my branding is as someone who likes to write. (In the video) I played a journalist who wrote on the laptop, then went out for an interview outside. It was as if I went out to collect data. Then I met an ice vendor and interviewed him to dig inspiration from the man. There is a lesson of struggle that we can learn from that,” Yoke explained to uns.ac.id team by the UNS Lake.

At the same time, Arif added that the raw video takes for editing material took 3 hours a day. The raw videotapes were conducted in mid-January 2021. After went through the assessment process, they were announced as the third champion on Thursday (4/2/2021). The team was interested in participating in the competition because they want to explore and channeled their talents.

“First, because of the partner, Arif invited me to join. Then I participated as a talent. Then, just exploring because I have never taken a role as talent, and it was after PKKMB UNS aftermovie takes,” Yoke, who is also PKKMB UNS 2020 Chief, stated.

Arif also said that he wants to channel his talent and consider competition an appropriate media for such a purpose. They admitted that they enjoy all stages of the video production process even though they need to find matched schedule due to their activities. Arif and friends want to participate in other competitions in the future and become more productive in joining video competitions.

“I want to develop myself, both as a talent and video maker. I like to participate in the competition. After this, I want to encourage my fellows to participate in future competitions in video creation, writing, and other competitions,” Yoke said.

Arif added that this competition is an evaluation of what is lacking in their team. It is also encouraging him to participate in more competitions. “I have a target of at least one competition a month. Hopefully more, I must be productive in participating in a competition,” Arif concluded. Humas UNS
