Collaborating with Emping Melinjo Business, KKN UNS Team Held a Marketing Workshop Digital Marketing

UNS — In an effort to empower the community and achieve post-pandemic economic recovery, Team 121 of Student Community Service Program (KKN) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a digital marketing workshop for emping melinjo (Gnetum gnemon Linn.) product. The event was held in Pucangan Village, Kartasura Subdistrict, Sukoharjo District last February.

Team 121 KKN UNS leader Farah Mufidah stated that community empowerment through digital marketing workshop is selected because most Pucangan people work as emping melinjo producers. The workshop was attended by the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) entrepreneurs in emping melinjo production. The workshop aims to expand the market, improve product photography skills, introduce copywriting and interesting product packaging.

“Besides, also assists emping melinjo producers in marketing their products through an online shop or a marketplace like Shopee, Tokopedia, Lazada, and other platforms,” Farah explained on Monday (1/3/2021).

A young entrepreneur, Desi Ristiyanasari, delivered the digital marketing material for the emping melinjo product. The material covers the photography technique using minimalistic tools, interesting product packaging, creating thank you cards, copywriting, and product marketing through the marketplace.

“The prime time to take a picture is around 09.00-11.00 morning because our picture will show its true color,” Desi explained in her material concerning photography.

In packaging material, Desi introduces handmade boxes to provide more up-to-date packaging for the traditional snack. She also explained that adding an expiry date is vital for food products. Regarding the thank you card, entrepreneurs can utilize free apps such as Canva and PicsArt.

“The use of the marketplace is expected to increase sales of emping melinjo. Besides, don’t forget to register emping melinjo product to get izin usaha Pangan Industri Rumah Tangga (P-IRT) (red: Home Industry Food business license). For the business that has no access to business permit, entrepreneurs should join MSME organization in Sukoharjo,” Desi Ristiyanasari explained.

Through this program, Team 121 KKN UNS hoped that they could increase emping melinjo sales that will improve villagers’ economy in Pucangan Village, Kartasura Subdistrict, Sukoharjo District. Humas UNS
