UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta commemorates Isra Mikraj the Prophet Muhammad SAW through an online study on Thursday (15/3/2021). Broadcasted through Zoom Cloud Meeting, the study invited Dr. KH. Marsudi Syuhud, M.M. as Vice Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) and Ekonomi Darul Uchwah Islamic Boarding School Caretaker, and Prof. Dr. H. Syafiq A. Mughni, M.A., Ph.D. as the Central Management (PP) of Muhammadiyah and Professor in the Faculty of Culture and Humanities Public Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Ampel. This event was opened with Al-Qur’an recitation by M. Hadziq Munajih, student of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering (FT) UNS.
As Chief of Nurul Huda UNS Mosque management, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, M.S. stated that Prophet Muhammad S.A.W Isra Mikraj has high spiritual values because it marks the start of five times prayer for Muslim people. It also contains high scientific value as the event surrounding Isra’ Mikraj cannot be explained by the current science. The Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum., mentioned in his remark that this celebration should open a way to implement the noble values taught through Isra’ Mikraj in daily life.
“A religion that is well understood and implemented in personal and social life will bring essential values in shaping a more respectable and civilized life,” Prof. Jamal explained.
The Rector added that with the Isra’ Mikraj celebration, Muslim people should stay istiqomah in following the committing themselves to Islam values fully, perfecting their characters, sharing, translating and responding to the messages and values in Islam, and implementing these values in daily life. Prof. Jamal also reminded the participants to get closer to Allah SWT through reflection, devout in prayers to Allah SWT.
Dr. Marsudi Syuhud delivered the first material and mentioned that a good leader would have diverse scientific backgrounds. Isra’ Mikraj represents Allah S.W.T process in preparing a leader with diverse knowledge because, in the event, the Prophet Muhammad SAW met with the previous Prophets. “To be a leader, a person needs a diverse knowledge, not only one—at least knowledge on life. Therefore, the Prophet Muhammad is an expert in trades, governance, defense, war, management, law, and other fields,” Dr. Marsudi Syuhud explained.
Isra Mikraj can be implemented in higher education by equipping their graduates with cross-disciplinary knowledge, enabling them to solve the community’s problems. Dr. Masudi Syuhud also emphasized that university students should manage their time and senses to achieve satisfying results from their education.
Prof. Dr. H. Syafiq A. Mughni, M.A., Ph.D. material discussed the values of Isra Mikraj, including theological testing, spiritual deepening, and scientific challenges. He emphasized that the event is not a miracle because it does not aim to fight unbelievers but test Muslims’ faith. Prof. Syafiq added that Isra Mikraj is challenging for the scientific world to explain how someone moved from one place to another only in a night.
“With Isra and Mikraj their soul was touched, their faith to God got stronger, their respect to our Prophet Muhammad SAW is higher, and we comprehend better that the Prophet Muhammad in the last addition to the series of Prophets sent by Allah SWT,” Prof. Syafiq stated. Humas UNS
