UNS — To improve student’s skills in the creative industry, the Indonesian Language and Literature Program Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held linguistic skill training online on Wednesday (17/3/2021). The training was open for students in the class of 2018-2020. Indonesian Language and Literature Program FIB UNS invited Iqbal Aji Daryono, a digital platform content writer, as a speaker.
The event was also attended by the Dean of FIB UNS, Prof. Warto, and the Head of the Indonesian Language and Literature Program, Dr. Dwi Susanto. Prof. Warto highly appreciates the event held by the Indonesian Language and Literature Program. “If our parents taught us that leaves could be turned into money, now, it is not only leaves, but also words,” Prof. Warto mentioned in his remark.
In his material, Iqbal stated that the Indonesian Language and Literature Program students have some leads in the writing world. They have a sense of linguistic, linguistic style, thoroughness, and orderliness. In this digital era, he added, the ability to manage language opens excellent opportunities. “Media could change into digital, but writing and ideas stayed the same,” he stated. He also mentioned that all media need content and seek to meet the traffic and quantity requirements. Combined with the informative age, the need for content writers increased. “For example, for a new event, the next five minutes, you can find the news,” he explained.
Iqbal also described the characters and writing techniques in the digital era for students who want to work in digital media writing. First, writing must be short, agile, and close to spoken languages. It should not be longer than 500 – 700 words in a short paragraph. Digital media writing should be coherent and used connecting words but should not be too tight with principle. A writer should ease the editor’s job by creating neat and clean writings. “Then, make an exciting title,” he explained.
He also explained several characters of digital media content to attract people’s interest. content should be actual with a hot topic, it should be informative-alternative, and not easily found information. “A writing usually takes a different perspective, thus contradicting general common sense. It should be filled with data, not a review or opinion, and represent the public opinion that cannot articulate an idea,” he added.
Lastly, Iqbal shared tips on generating ideas in writing, such as read a lot, befriend a lot of people, and gain a lot of perspectives. To market students’ writing, they can use social media or a conventional method of sending writings to editors. Humas UNS
