UNS — ‘Image’ is an essential point in recruiter’s assessment over worker candidates for their company. The first impression was built long before a recruiter assesses one’s curriculum vitae and interview through a candidate’s personal branding in social media. This assessment is vital considering the number of applicants a firm’s received and considering the pandemic in which people conduct most of their activities online.

In an effort to solve the personal branding problem, AIESEC in Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta invited Firdani Apriana, HR Manager Satu Persen, to share her tips in  “Virtual Impact Circle #YOUthInAction: Boost Your Personal Capacity Through Social Media in Pandemic Covid-19” webinar. Firda, her short name, said that personal branding for job seekers is how they build their professional identity and promoting their values to attracts the recruiter’s interest. Bring forward not only their uniqueness but also how their uniqueness is relevant to the position they apply.

“Personal branding brings several benefits, how well you know yourself, describe your reputation and excellence, differentiate you from other candidates, and increase recruiter’s trust,” Firda said.

She followed with the tips. First, define personal identity. Building the foundation of personal branding with the assets we have; skills & credentials, abilities, awards, certification, and training. Then through passion and interests, core values and beliefs. These contents can be shared in a humble way, through stories, up and down, and why you are grateful for the achievement.

Second, choosing an audience because not everybody can be your target. Suppose you targeted recruiters, content, and messages should be adjusted to the professional’s fields. Third, communicating personal branding through consistency between the branding and daily life. Fourth, Online Presence is Key! Ensure that our personal branding reach people provides an open profile page. Create and share relevant content with the image you want to build and clean all unnecessary digital footprints.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a platform where professionals gather and common for recruiters to check candidate’s backgrounds from. Thus, you might want to pay more attention to it. It is crucial for candidates to ensure that their data is up-to-date in LinkedIn, has a complete profile, and builds a connection with relevant parties. “From here, we can see that, oh, this candidate can represent themselves well,” Firda said.

To put it simply, understand your objectives, interests and talent, and what you want to achieve, before you start. Be yourself and do not impose other’s objectives and standards on yourself. Execute your plan and work hard to gain experience and explore various activities. Humas UNS
