LAZIS UNS Changed Name to Zakat Collecting Unit

UNS — The Unit of Amil Zakat, Infaq and Shodaqoh (LAZIS) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta changed its name into Zakat Collecting Unit (UPZ) UNS. With this new name, UPZ UNS became a part of National Amil Zakat Unit (BAZNAS) of the Central Java Province.

The Head of Central Java BAZNAS, KH. Ahmad Darodji handed the Decision Letter from the National Amil Zakat Unit of the Central Java Province Number 56/ BAZNAS-Prov/SK/V/2021 dated 18 May 2021 concerning the Formation of Zakat Collecting Unit (UPZ) Management UNS 2021-2026 directly to the Vice-Rector for Management and Human Resources Affairs UNS, Prof. Bandi. The Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs UNS, Prof. Ahmad Yunus, accompanied Prof. Bandi in the ceremony held in dr. Prakosa Building UNS, Thursday (3/6/2021).

Representing the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, Vice-Rector for Management and Human Resources Affairs UNS Prof. Bandi, delivered his gratitude to Central Java BAZNAS, who visited UNS to hand the letter. The Head of UPZ UNS, Dr. Joko Sutrisno, added that during its operation, LAZIS UNS has no affiliation with Central Java BAZNAS. “LAZIS is established by the community because government institutions like UNS cannot have one. Therefore, in 2021, as a government institution, we change LAZIS UNS into UPZ UNS,” Dr. Joko explained.

LAZIS UNS Changed Name to Zakat Collecting Unit

Dr. Joko added that after the name change and build an affiliation with Central Java BAZNAS, all zakat, infaq, and shodaqoh collected by UPZ UNS will be sent to the Central Java BAZNAS. “Previously, LAZIS UNS distribute the zakat, infaq, and shodaqoh independently. But now, the zakat, infaq, and shodaqoh we collected will be reported to the Central Java BAZNAS, then 70% of what we reported to BAZNAS will be delivered to the recipients and 30% will be distributed by Central Java BAZNAS,” he explained.

The function and duty of UPZ remain the same, but they will adjust their program with the Central Java BAZNAS. “For distribution of zakat, infaq, and shodaqoh refers to the same regulation. There are eight groups that are eligible for zakat recipients. We will adjust (our program) with Central Java BAZNAS programs. Our target is those zakat recipients will be able to improve their (welfare) into zakat donors,” Dr. Joko stated.

Dr. Joko offered his gratitude to all UNS academic members, UNS alumni, and the community around UNS who had delivered their zakat, infaq, and shodaqoh through UPZ UNS. “In 2021, we targeted to collect zakat, infaq, and shodaqoh around IDR 80 million to IDR 100 million per month,” he said.

On the same occasion, UPZ UNS and Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) UNS handed humanity donations for Palestine through the Central Java BAZNAS with IDR 25 million donations. Humas UNS
