UNS — The Community Service Learning (KKN) Group 76 from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a socialization event in Bandardawung Village, Tawangmangu, Karanganyar. This activity aimed at community development and the enhancement of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) there.

The program entitled “Elevating MSMEs through Branding Strategies” was conducted with the participation of UNS lecturer, Dyah Yuni Kurniawati, S.Sn., M.Sn. In her presentation, she explained and guided the MSME entrepreneurs on improving product sales through effective branding and marketing techniques. The socialization of advanced MSME branding strategies took place on Thursday (10/08/2023). The knowledge gained was not only beneficial for MSMEs, but also for the residents of Bandardawung village.

“This socialization covers the importance of branding, how to build effective branding, and the elements of branding,” Dyah Yuni K. said.

Various challenges are encountered in business development, especially for MSMEs, such as insufficient product recognition or incorrect sales targeting. Bandardawung Village holds great potential for MSMEs and the development of local products. Through this branding and marketing-related socialization, it is expected that MSME entrepreneurs will become more aware of the significance of product branding and the expansive marketing strategies for the progress of their ventures.

The socialization received numerous positive responses. Many MSME entrepreneurs began to understand the significance of branding through distinctive labels that introduce products with unique characteristics, attractive packaging, and promotion through online marketplaces. This was evident from the interactive engagement of the MSME owners during the presentation session on the importance of branding and marketing.

Mochi Production Workshop

In addition to the socialization, UNS KKN Group 76 also held a workshop on making honey sweet potato mochi. Mochi is a contemporary food trend that has gained popularity among all age groups. The Honey Sweet Potato Mochi Workshop aimed to enhance the village community’s innovation skills and potentially become a business idea in Bandardawung.

This workshop also received a positive response due to the simplicity of making sweet potato mochi. With enthusiasm and active participation, local women joined the UNS KKN Group 76 students in making sweet potato mochi. The easy process of creating mochi using the abundant local sweet potato resources in Bandardawung attracted the interest of homemakers to engage in this activity during their leisure time.
