Welcoming New Students, UNS Organizes PKKMB 2023

UNS — In order to prepare new students (Maba), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) 2023. The PKKMB UNS 2023 would be held for three days from Monday (21/8/2023) to Wednesday (23/8/2023).

The Acting Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs UNS, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yunus, M.S., said that the goal of PKKMB 2023 is to provide new UNS students with guidance to quickly adapt to campus life and the education system at the university.

The specific objectives of this PKKMB event include, firstly, instilling awareness of nationalism, statehood, defense of the nation, care for the environment, and society in accordance with the four pillars of the nation, namely Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, and Bhineka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity). Secondly, introduce the learning system and academic life at UNS by instilling the basic values of education and the three pillars of higher education. Thirdly, introducing the rights and obligations of students as adult individuals for themselves and their surroundings; creating a friendly (inclusive), safe, and healthy campus. Fourthly, shaping students’ character that emphasizes intellectuality, thoughtful and mature communication and actions, anti-violence, anti-bullying, cultural, dignified, and inspiring behaviors. Fifthly, introducing successful learning strategies and personal development in higher education through the concept and practice of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM). Sixthly, designing a future for independent and responsible outstanding generations, and finally, creating students who are agile and resilient learners.

 “PKKMB UNS 2023 begins from 21 to 23 August 2023, starting with the official acceptance of new students, then handed over to their respective faculties and study programs. The focus on Monday (21/8/2023) tomorrow will be on university activities, followed by Tuesday (22/8/2023) focusing on faculty-related materials, and Wednesday (23/8/2023) centered on study program preparations. The first lecture day at UNS will start on 28 August 2023,” Prof. Yunus explained on Sunday (20/8/2023).

The speakers who will attend this PKKMB event include: the Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia; the Governor of the National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas), Andi Widjajanto, Ph.D.; Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), Doni Primanto Joewono; Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., DIC., Ph.D.; and Chairman of the Indonesian Real Estate Association (REI), Joko Suranto, S.H., M.H.; and several other invited guests who will attend both physically and virtually.

“In order to monitor the implementation of PKKMB 2023, a monitoring and evaluation team has been formed at the university and faculty levels, consisting of lecturers (student organization evaluation team and student code of ethics council) and students (student council). This team is responsible for evaluating and monitoring the implementation of PKKMB 2023,” he added.

Regarding the implementation of PKKMB UNS 2023, the leadership conducted socialization and coordination with the parents/guardians of new students regarding the implementation of PKKMB for the next three days to ensure it went according to plan. Additionally, information about PKKMB UNS 2023 has been conveyed through the official UNS information channels which can be accessed via infomaba.uns.ac.id.

Furthermore, for the distribution of activities, interests, talents, and information about student organizations (Ormawa), UNS has scheduled the Faculty UKM (student activity unit) Expo on August 24th and 25th. The event continued with the university-level UKM Expo on September 2nd and 3rd, 2023. This expo event will contribute to achieving the Key Performance Indicators (IKU) set by Kemendikbudristek. During this event, all Student Activity Units (UKM) are allowed to showcase their activities and recruit new members. New students will be welcomed by Campus Ambassadors, Paskibraka, Scouts, and various arts and sports organizations at UNS.
