FMIPA UNS Establishes Collaboration with BPS Surakarta

UNS – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta once again forged collaboration with a government institution, the Central Beureau of Statistics (Badan Pusat Statistik, or BPS) of Surakarta City. The signing of the memorandum of understanding between the Dean of FMIPA and the Head of BPS Surakarta took place in the Senate Meeting Room of the Soetomo Darsowiratmo Building.

One of the goals of this collaboration is to carry out the management of the Pojok Statistik (or Statistical Corner) at FMIPA, as part of the Independent Campus Learning (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka, or MBKM) initiative and to develop a partnered village or a statistics-loving village (Kelurahan Binaan or Kelurahan Cinta Statistik). The management of Pojok Statistik involves collaborative efforts in providing statistical consultation services, offering literacy space, and delivering educational services, benefiting all students and academics within the UNS community.

The presence of Pojok Statistik is intended to provide a platform for the public to access BPS data, serving as a medium to build user engagement between BPS and students, academics, and all members of the UNS academic community. It also serves as a platform for receiving input, suggestions, and feedback regarding BPS products.

Ratna Setyowati, S.Si, M.T., M.A., the Head of BPS Surakarta, appreciates the collaboration with FMIPA UNS and hopes that universities can play an active role in applying their knowledge. She expresses the desire that, through this collaboration, students not only excel academically but also understand the practical applications in the field.

“With this collaboration, it is hoped to support the Independent Campus Learning (MBKM) program, and students can play an active role in applying their knowledge gained in lectures,” Ratna said during the signing of the collaboration on Monday (13/11/2023).

The Dean of FMIPA UNS, Drs. Harjana, M.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., hopes that the collaboration will be mutually beneficial. From the perspective of the university, students can apply their knowledge gained in lectures so that when they graduate, they are not hesitant to enter the workforce. Meanwhile, from the perspective of BPS, they can be assisted in developing partnered villages or Cantik villages.

“I hope this collaboration can benefit both parties. BPS plays a role as a partner in supporting the MBKM program at FMIPA, while students act as partners in supporting the implementation of the partnered village or Cantik village program,” Harjana concludes. Humas UNS
