UNS – In celebration of its 28th anniversary, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a community service event called FMIPA Mengabdi. This year’s activities were centered in the Bulu District, specifically in Tiyaran and Gentan Villages. The event, held on Wednesday (18/9/2024), at the Tiyaran Village Hall in Bulu District, Sukoharjo Regency, included various activities such as tree planting, distribution of basic food packages, free health check-ups for the elderly, a second-hand clothing bazaar, and a teaching program at SMPN 3 Bulu.
The event was attended by several local officials, including Bulu District Secretary, Tri Budi Setiawan, S.I.P., M.M., who represented the district head; Bulu Police Chief, AKP Sumardi, S.H.; Bulu District Military Commander, Captain Inf. Mustamin; Gentan Village Head, Haryanto, S.E.; and Tiyaran Village Head, Sunardi, S.P. Also in attendance were SMPN 3 Bulu Principal Sukeksi, S.Pd., as well as the FMIPA UNS Dean, Dr. Desi Suci Handayani, and members of the 28th FMIPA Dies Natalies Committee.
In his remarks, Tri Budi Setiawan expressed his gratitude for FMIPA’s decision to hold the community service event in Bulu District, particularly in Tiyaran and Gentan Villages. He hoped that the contributions from FMIPA would be used effectively by the local community.
“On behalf of the District Head, I would like to thank FMIPA UNS for selecting Bulu District, specifically Tiyaran and Gentan Villages, as the location for FMIPA Mengabdi I hope the residents fully utilize the contributions from FMIPA,” Tri Budi Setiawan said.



Meanwhile, FMIPA UNS Dean, Dr. Desi Suci Handayani, expressed her gratitude to the Bulu District officials for allowing FMIPA Mengabdi to organize in their area. She emphasized that the event is part of FMIPA’s commitment to the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, which focuses on education, research, and community service, to improve societal welfare.
“FMIPA Mengabdi is part of the 28th dies natalies celebration of FMIPA UNS. This event represents our commitment to the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, supporting the well-being of the community,” Dr. Desi explained.
Following the opening ceremony, symbolic donations of basic food packages were presented to representatives from Tiyaran and Gentan Villages. Additionally, tree seedlings were handed over to the village heads of Tiyaran and Gentan for further distribution to local residents. A total of 300 tree seedlings were distributed, including 40 teak trees, 40 gmelina trees, 40 sengon trees, 40 cashew trees, 40 petai trees, 40 lamtoro trees, 40 calliandra trees, and 20 avocado trees. The aim is for these seedlings to contribute to reforestation efforts in the two villages.
Before the seedlings were distributed, a symbolic tree planting took place at the Tiyaran Village Office, involving the Bulu District Secretary, the local police chief, the military commander, and the village heads of Gentan and Tiyaran, as well as the principal of SMPN 3 Bulu and FMIPA officials.
With the completion of the FMIPA Mengabdi activities, it is hoped that these initiatives will benefit the Bulu District, particularly Tiyaran and Gentan Villages. From this small step, driven by the spirit of cooperation, significant impacts can be made on the community. Furthermore, it is hoped that this initiative will strengthen the relationship between FMIPA UNS and the community, fostering long-term collaboration in the future.
