UNS – The Indonesian Society for Horticulture (PERHORTI) organized the 2024 PERHORTI National Seminar at the Faculty of Agriculture (FP) of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta. The seminar took place from Tuesday (17/9/2024) to Wednesday (18/9/2024) in a hybrid format. The event carried the theme “Pendampingan PERHORTI Dalam Mewujudkan Kemajuan Hortikultura” (PERHORTI’s Support in Achieving Horticultural Advancement).
According to the fp.uns.ac.id website, the 2024 PERHORTI National Seminar was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, PERHORTI Central, PERHORTI Central Java Regional Chapter, and FP UNS. The event was attended by several prominent figures, including the UNS Vice-Rector for Resources, Prof. Dr. E. Muhtar, S.Pd., M.Si., CFrA; the Dean of FP UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Samanhudi, S.P., M.Si., IPM ASEAN Eng., APEC Eng.; the Chairperson of PERHORTI, Prof. Dr. Dewi Sukma, S.P., M.Si.; and the Chairperson of PERHORTI Central Java, Prof. Dr. Ir. Eddy Tri Haryanto, M.P. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Ir. Muhammad Taufiq Ratule, M.Si., the Interim Director General of Horticulture.


In his remarks, FP UNS Dean, Prof. Dr. Ir. Samanhudi, S.P., M.Si., IPM ASEAN Eng., APEC Eng., highlighted the challenges facing Indonesia’s horticultural sector, particularly the underutilization of technological innovations and the weak institutional framework within the horticulture industry.
“The competitiveness of horticultural products continues to grow, but this is not matched by productivity, which remains insufficient. In achieving horticultural advancement in Indonesia, there is a critical need for knowledge and the commitment of various stakeholders, including stronger integration between institutions and disciplines,” Prof. Samanhudi explained.
Several prominent speakers participated in the 2024 PERHORTI National Seminar, including Prof. Dr. Ir. Slamet Susanto, M.Sc., the Chair of the PERHORTI Expert Council; Prof. Dr. Ir. Eddy Tri Haryanto, M.P., the Chair of PERHORTI Central Java; Ir. Soekam Parwadi from the National Commodity Market; and Supriyanto, S.P., M.P., the Head of the Agriculture and Plantation Department of Central Java Province. The seminar was moderated by Prof. Dr. Ir. Maria Theresia Sri Budiastuti, M.Si., who guided the discussions throughout the event.
The seminar was enthusiastically attended by academics, practitioners, and students with an interest in agriculture, particularly horticulture, from across Indonesia. The event concluded with the presentation of 95 research papers.
