UNS – Three students from the Faculty of Law (FH) at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, forming Team Payakumbuh, achieved the overall champion title in the 7th Andalas Law Competition, Prof. Dr. Saldi Isra Cup. The team won first place, as well as awards for Best Paper and Best Presentation in the National Scientific Writing Competition.

Team Payakumbuh, representing UNS, consisted of Nabila Salma Aristawidya, Rio Dwi Prasetiya, and Kinanthi Ing Gusti, all of whom are undergraduate students in the Law Program at UNS.

The Andalas Law Competition is an annual national law competition organized by the Faculty of Law at Universitas Andalas. This year marked its seventh organization. After advancing through the qualifying rounds, UNS’s representative team emerged as one of the top five finalists and presented in person at Universitas Andalas from Friday (4/10/2024) to Sunday (6/10/2024).

“The process involved registration, document submission, and a preliminary screening step. Following that, the top five teams were announced, and the final round was held offline at Universitas Andalas in Padang,” Nabila explained to uns.ac.id on Friday (25/10/2024).

In their submission, the team developed a legal research paper on implementing blockchain technology to achieve carbon neutrality. Blockchain offers a new, secure, transparent, and efficient way of recording and verifying transactions. Applied to carbon trading, it could help accelerate the transition to a low-carbon, green economy.

“For this competition, our team created a legal research paper focusing on applying blockchain in carbon trading to promote carbon neutrality,” Nabila said.

Nabila expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to bring recognition to UNS in the field of law. She noted that this accomplishment demonstrates UNS’s competitiveness, with Team Payakumbuh successfully outperforming teams from other prestigious universities, such as Universitas Indonesia (UI), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), and more.

“My team and I are incredibly proud and grateful to have won the overall champion title. It was unexpected, as we faced strong teams from other universities. We were able to outshine other top institutions like UI, UGM, Undip, and many more,” Nabila added.
