UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) in Surakarta recently hosted an official visit from the Ambassador of Turkey to Indonesia, Prof. Talip Kucukcan, on Monday (4/11/2024). This visit aimed to strengthen diplomatic ties between Turkey and Indonesia and explore potential collaborations in education and culture.
The lunch meeting, held in the UNS Tower Ki Hadjar Dewantara building, saw Prof. Kucukcan welcomed by UNS Rector Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr. M.Si., along with other university leaders. In a warm discussion, Prof. Kucukcan highlighted opportunities for UNS and Turkish higher education institutions to collaborate, including student exchange programs, joint research initiatives, and cultural projects that foster mutual understanding between the two nations.
Prof. Kucukcan expressed his appreciation for UNS’s rapid development and hopes his visit will serve as a foundation for strengthening academic ties between Indonesia and Turkey.
“This visit is not merely about building relations between two nations but also about expanding cultural awareness and understanding. We hope to collaborate with UNS across various mutually beneficial areas,” Prof. Kucukcan stated.
UNS has already established two partnerships with Turkish universities. The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at UNS signed an Action Plan with Istanbul University’s Faculty of Political Sciences and a separate agreement with Usak University.

Prof. Kucukcan also expressed his willingness to facilitate further partnerships, especially with Ankara and Marmara University. “We are ready to support these collaborations,” he added.
UNS Rector, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr. M.Si., welcomed the plans for partnership and expressed UNS’s enthusiasm for closer ties with Turkish educational institutions.
“We see significant potential in working with Turkey, both in advancing scientific knowledge and expanding our international network,” Prof. Hartono shared.
The visit also provided an opportunity for UNS students and faculty to participate in exchange programs and for UNS to broaden its international reach.
UNS expects this visit to serve as a stepping stone toward new international collaboration opportunities, supporting broader goals in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
