UNS Textile Craft Student Collaborates with Prasojobyrani Lurik Prasojo at Urban Fashion 2024

UNS – Chiquitana Balqis Ghorra’ul Wajh, a student from the Textile Craft Program at the Faculty of Arts and Design (FSRD), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, made a striking impression at Urban Fashion 2024 with her collection Metropolis Edge on Sunday (24/11/2024). In an inspiring collaboration with Prasojobyrani Lurik Prasojo, Chiquitana presented eight pieces of women’s fashion, combining the elegance of pink-and-gray woven lurik fabric with brown chinos.

The Metropolis Edge collection draws inspiration from the rhythm of urban life, balancing modernity with warmth and inclusivity. Each design’s cheerful pink, gray, and brown tones create a harmonious blend of dynamic energy, softness, and strength. Featuring contemporary styles and meticulous detailing, the collection represents confident and characterful urban women.

“This collaboration is an exploration of combining traditional fabrics like lurik with modern materials such as chinos. The result is clothing that is not only beautiful but also functional and relevant to the lifestyle of today’s women,” Chiquitana explained during an interview after the fashion show.

The designs in this collection emphasize the interplay of textures and colors, featuring elegant silhouettes with geometric accents that seamlessly merge tradition and modernity. Through this collaboration, Prasojobyrani and Chiquitana showcased the untapped potential of lurik weaving as part of the urban fashion industry.

Urban Fashion 2024 provided an ideal platform for showcasing innovative works from talented young designers. With a focus on sustainability and local creativity, the event highlighted the enduring relevance of Indonesia’s traditional textiles in the global fashion scene. Humas UNS
