UNS – A team of three students representing Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, known as Tim Semar Mesem, secured first place in the Capital Market Olympiad at the Jambi Financial Inclusion Festival (JFI Fest) 2024. The team members, Abel Rizky Agustian, Abdullah Faqih, and Addien Lazuardi Imani, are from the Accounting and Statistics study programs.
JFI Fest, an annual event organized by the Capital Market Study Group (KSPM) at Universitas Jambi, introduced the Capital Market Olympiad as a new competition category this year. In preparation, the team extensively reviewed capital market materials, stayed updated on the latest news and regulations, and analyzed current stock market conditions.
The journey to victory was marked by several elimination rounds, starting with the top 50, then the top 15, and then the top 5, conducted through Kahoot. In the finals, the Semar Mesem team was tasked with presenting a case study analysis based on a randomly selected theme on the day of the final round. They excelled, scoring 63 points in total from the three judges.
“In the finals, we were asked to present our analysis of a randomly assigned case, with the selection made on the same day. Additional points were also awarded for teams that provided feedback or rebuttals to the presenting team, and we leveraged those bonus points effectively,” Abel explained during an interview with uns.ac.id on Monday (9/12/2024).
The team expressed immense gratitude for their achievement, especially in capital market investment.
“Alhamdulillah, we didn’t expect this result. Initially, we didn’t set an ambitious target to win first place. During the final round, our aim was just to secure second or third place. So, we’re incredibly grateful to not only win first place but to do so with a significant margin over the second-place team,” Abel said.
The team believes Indonesia’s capital market holds great growth potential in terms of investment and competitive opportunities. They encouraged their fellow students to actively participate and bring pride to UNS, particularly in capital market investment.
Abel, Abdullah, and Addien’s interest in the capital market and their efforts to promote awareness of this field align with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. Their achievement highlights the importance of inclusive and sustainable economic growth through investment literacy and engagement.
