Four Study Programs at UNS Undergo FIBAA International Accreditation Site Assessment

UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta continues to strengthen its commitment to improving the quality of internationally recognized higher education. In support of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on Quality Education, UNS actively encourages its study programs to pursue international accreditation, one of which is through the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA).

FIBAA is an international accreditation agency committed to ensuring the quality of higher education according to global standards, particularly in the fields of management, business, economics, law, and social sciences. This accreditation process focuses on the quality of teaching methods, curriculum relevance to industry needs, and graduate learning outcomes to ensure international competitiveness.

In Cluster 3, UNS submitted four study programs for the FIBAA accreditation process: the Undergraduate Program in Visual Communication Design, Interior Design, Fashion Design, and Art Education. These four programs have consistently implemented international standards in their academic processes.

After completing the Self Evaluation Report document review stage, the site assessment was conducted on 28–29 January 2026 and was led by Eva Seldel as the FIBAA Project Manager.

The opening session of the site assessment took place at Ki Hadjar Dewantara Tower, UNS. During the session, Eva Seldel introduced the assessment team, which consisted of academics Prof. Dr. Marc Fritzsche, Prof. Dr. Christina Eviutami Mediastika, Prof. Javier Martin, Prof. Dr. Andreas Ken Lanig, and Dr. Claire Barber; industry practitioner Dipl.Des (FH), M.Des Julita Oetojo; and one student representative, Isabelle Schnelder.

The assessment began with a presentation from the university leadership delivered by Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, Internationalization, and Information, Prof. Irwan Trinugroho, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., accompanied by Vice Rector for Academic and Research Affairs, Prof. Dr. Fitria Rahmawati, S.Si., M.Si., along with leaders from the Institute for Learning Development and Quality Assurance (LPPMP), the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD), and the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP).

In the presentation, the university highlighted various international achievements, including its rankings in the QS World University Rankings, Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, and Webometrics World Rank, as indicators of global recognition of UNS’ academic excellence.

In addition to presentations from university and faculty leaders, the assessors also conducted interviews with heads of study programs, lecturers, students, alumni, and administrative staff. Supporting units such as the library, International Office, Career Development Center, and laboratories were also included in the evaluation process.

The assessors further visited several facilities, including student exhibition galleries, to directly evaluate learning outcomes and academic achievements.

Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD), Dr. Deny Tri Ardianto, Dipl.Art., expressed his hope that this accreditation process would further strengthen UNS’ international reputation. He emphasized that international accreditation not only increases public trust, but also opens broader opportunities for global collaboration and enhances graduates’ competitiveness.

“The feedback and recommendations from the FIBAA assessors are highly valuable for improving the quality of learning in the four accredited study programs,” he stated.

Through this assessment process, UNS demonstrates its ongoing commitment to improving educational quality and strengthening its position as a world-class university capable of producing excellent, competitive, and globally recognized graduates.
