FT UNS Opens International Undergraduate Classes for Civil Engineering and Chemical Engineering Programs

UNS — The Faculty of Engineering (FT) at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a Soft Launching event for the opening of international undergraduate classes for the Civil Engineering and Chemical Engineering Study Programs. The event took place at the Main Seminar Room (RSU) of the Ir. R.P.M. Kasifudin Building, FT UNS, on Friday (8/5/2026). The establishment of these international classes marks a strategic step by FT UNS in supporting UNS’s vision of becoming an internationally recognized university toward a World Class University.

The Dean of FT UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Wahyudi Sutopo, S.T., M.Si., IPU., stated that the program represents a concrete effort by FT UNS to respond to the needs of global industries and society for engineering graduates with international competencies and global competitiveness.

“Today, FT UNS has two very special reasons to be grateful, namely the issuance of the Rector’s Decrees regarding the opening of International Undergraduate Classes for the Civil Engineering and Chemical Engineering Study Programs,” explained Prof. Wahyudi, who was accompanied by the Vice Dean for Academic and Research Affairs of FT UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Eko Surojo, S.T., M.T.; the Head of the Undergraduate Civil Engineering Program, Dr. Ir. Achmad Basuki, S.T., M.T.; and the Head of the Undergraduate Chemical Engineering Program, Dr. Ir. Joko Waluyo, S.T., M.T.

The international classes were officially established through Rector’s Decree Number 1010/UN27/HK.02/2026 for the Undergraduate Civil Engineering Program and Rector’s Decree Number 1013/UN27/HK.02/2026 for the Undergraduate Chemical Engineering Program. The opening of these international undergraduate classes is the result of extensive collaboration and hard work among the Study Program Management Unit (UPPS), study programs, faculty support units, and various related parties at the university level. The process began with preparation stages, proposal drafting, evaluation by the UNS Institute for Development and Quality Assurance, and ultimately official approval through the Rector’s Decree.

The opening of these international classes is not merely the addition of new academic programs but a concrete effort by FT UNS to address the demands of global industries and society for engineering graduates with international competencies, adaptability, and global competitiveness.

“We hope this program will produce global engineers from FT UNS — graduates who are not only academically excellent but also capable of becoming innovators, problem solvers, and future leaders who create meaningful impacts for global society. Students are expected to gain broader learning experiences through curriculum enhancement, global collaboration, academic exchange, industrial networking, and partnership opportunities with international institutions,” he stated.

Regarding the student selection mechanism, the entire process will follow the governance system of the UNS New Student Admission Selection (SPMB). Requirements for applicants can be accessed through the official UNS SPMB website, and student selection will be conducted through the 2026 Independent Admission Pathway. The first lectures are planned to begin in the Odd Semester of the 2026/2027 Academic Year in August 2026.

Prof. Wahyudi also expressed appreciation to all teams who worked hard throughout the proposal preparation, academic evaluation, and issuance of the rector’s decrees. According to him, international classes are not merely an expansion of academic programs but a platform for producing global engineers from FT UNS.
