A Team of FT UNS Faculty Member Provided Training for Software Usage in Central Java Industry and Trade Office

UNS — A team of faculty members from the Faculty of Engineering (FT) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta provided training on the usage of Powersim simulation software and DS3CK Application for the staffs of Central Java (Jateng) Industry and Trade Office. DS3CK is the abbreviation of Decision Support System for Supply Chain Kedelai (Soy Bean) is an application with registered copyright in Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights Ministry of Law and Human Right of the Republic of Indonesia (RI). The application was developed using Powersim Simulation Software.

The Dean of FT UNS, Dr. techn. Sholihin As’ad in his remark stated that the Central Java government and UNS has a close collaboration under the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2018. To better implement the collaboration, in January 2020 a Collaboration Agreement between FT UNS and Central Java Industry and Trade Office was signed. “As a follow up of the Collaboration Agreement, the training for the Powersim Simulation Software and DS3CK Application for the staff of Central Java Industry and Trade Office was conducted by a team from FT UNS,” Dr. techn. Sholihin explained.

Dr. techn. Sholihin added that the application can be used in decision making, in this context for Central Java government to choose several policy alternatives that can be implemented to achieve soybean self-sufficiency. With this application, the policy alternatives can be put on testing and its effect on the effort to achieve soybean self-sufficiency can be observed. “The other feature of this application is providing insights on the effect of the policy alternatives on farmer’s welfare, (farmers) are usually become the weakest party in the agricultural commodity supply chain,” he added. An appropriate policy is expected to ensure both soybean self-sufficiency and farmer’s welfare.

Dr. techn. Sholihin, added that this event is a part of Independent Community Service Program in 2020 titled ‘Technical Assistance for the Utilization of DS3CK Application (Copyrighted) to Support the Policy of Soybean Self-sufficiency in Central Java’. The event is expected to enrich knowledge and skills in using simulation software for the staffs of Central Java Industry and Trade Office. “So that it can help in their office jobs, especially in making a simulation for several policies and improve the effectiveness in decision making,” Dr. techn. Sholihin conveyed.

The training was conducted on Tuesday (22/9/2020) through Zoom meeting and live stream in the Faculty of Engineering UNS YouTube channel. The invited speakers are Faculty Member from FT UNS, Dr. Muh. Hisjam, STP., MT., and an alumnus of Master Program in Industrial Engineering FT UNS who now works as Faculty Member in Industrial Engineering Program, Faculty of Engineering, Science, and Agriculture, Universitas Islam Batik, Surakarta, Nancy Oktyajati, ST., MT. The Chief of Agro Department of Central Java Industry and Trade Office, Sigid Adi Brata, SE., MM, welcomed the event and provide a positive response. “We hope that there will be follow up for this kind of event which will be beneficial for both UNS and the government,” Sigid stated.
