Academic Senate Open Session in UNS 45th Anniversary, Prof. Jamal Shared UNS Performance

UNS — Commemorating Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta 45th anniversary, the Rector, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, invited all academic members to give a wise meaning to their university young age. The Rector UNS delivered this notion in the offline and online Academic Senate Open Session to Commemorate UNS 45th Anniversary on Friday (12/3/2021).

“For a Public University (PTN), this age is considered young. However, we consider this young age as a spirit to realize UNS responsibility to all Indonesian people. This spirit is the basis of my speech Dengan Semangat 45 Mewujudkan Tanggung Jawab Sosial UNS PTNBH untuk Membangun Kembali Indonesia di Tengah Pandemi melalui Merdeka Belajar dan Hilirisasi Inovasi (With Semangat 45 Realizing UNS PTNBH Social Responsibility to Rebuild Indonesia Amid the Pandemic through Merdeka Belajar and Downstreaming Innovation),” Prof. Jamal stated.

As a form of its social responsibility, UNS has contributed in the COvid-29 handling through various innovation, such as developing ventilator for Covid-19 patients, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for medical personnel at the front line, Curcuma Pro herbal beverage to increase the immune system, and plasmapheresis or plasma therapy through blood transfusion.

UNS also conducted social innovation to assist Covid-19 patients. The action was joined by faculty members and academic staff in UNS who voluntarily donate their income to help people impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The movement successfully collected IDR 1 billion funds distributed to those affected by the pandemic.

UNS also provided internet quota, tuition fee cut, and tuition fee exemption for students during the pandemic. IDR 37 billion were incurred to provide this assistance for 9,752 students in 2020-2021.

Besides, Covid-19 handling contribution, UNS also ranked 8th in the Best Public University in Indonesia based on 4ICU version in Sidney, Australia; ranked 10 in webometrics ranking, and included in cluster 1 of the Best Public University by the Directorate General for Higher Education (Ditjen Dikti) Ministry of Education and Culture (ranked 11th). These achievements are inseparable from all UNS academic members and alumni, the active roles who have worked hard, lend a hand, and develop the university to contribute to society actively.

“On this anniversary, UNS will hand award for 45 new doctors who have completed their doctoral degree from both home and foreign universities,” Prof. Jamal mentioned his commitment to increasing the number of Doctoral and Professor faculty members in UNS.

Currently, UNS has 44% faculty members with a doctoral degree and 10% of faculty members with a professor title. The university has a target of 50% faculty members with a doctoral degree and 18% of faculty members with professor title by 2023.
