UNS – The rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho inaugurated three new professors. The three professors are Prof. Ir. Winny Astuti, M. Sc., Ph. D as Professor in Urban and Area Development in the Faculty of Engineering (FT), Prof. Dr. Eng. Agus Purwanto, S. T., M. T as Professor in Chemical Engineering in the FT, and Prof. Dr. Asrowi, M. Pd as Professor in Guidance and Counseling in the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP).

In the Open Senate Assembly of Professor Inauguration held in G. P. H Haryo Mataram Auditorium, Wednesday (26/2/2020), the professors delivered inauguration speech.

In front of the university head, senates, and invited guests, Prof. Winny Astuti delivered an inauguration speech on ‘Community-based Housing Development as an Urban Poverty Alleviation Effort’. In the beginning of her speech, Prof. Winny Astuti explained that her inauguration speech is aimed to explain one of the current big issues in the housing development.
“This is my concern on the housing issues in the context of urban and area development, especially concerning the poverty alleviation effort as mandated by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” Prof. Winny Astuti stated.

Prof. Winny Astuti also stated that one of the models developed concerning Community-based Housing Development (CBHD) as poverty alleviation effort is the concept of community empowerment model for slum area as the sustainable poverty of alleviation effort in the urban area. The efforts include the housing approach strategies that lead to ‘Poverty Alleviation Effort’, community involvement as the stakeholder, and the involvement of all actors in the planning, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of housing development process.

The second inaugurated professor from FT UNS is Prof. Agus Purwanto, delivered an inauguration speech on ‘Battery: Future Innovative Source of Energy’. As new professor, Prof. Agus Purwanto has received various prestigious awards, among others Doctoral Scholarship from Monbukagakusho: Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) Japan in (2004-2008) and Academic Leader in Technology from the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) in 2018.

In his inauguration speech, Prof. Agus Purwanto mentioned future energy innovation that form people’s future. The innovation mentioned is on battery technology.
“In the long-term, technology and minimum level of pollution support the sustainable life on earth. I believed that almost all of our activities in the future will be supported by tools which energy comes from battery,” he stated.

After the two professors from FT UNS delivered their speech, the professor from FKIP, Prof. Asrowi delivered his inauguration speech on ‘Spiritual Counselling as the Alternative to Strengthen Character in 5.0 Era in the Field of Education’.

Prof. Asrowi bring the light the high percentage of adolescent who experienced act of violence. This is based on the data collected by US Census Authority which showed that 60% of adolescent experienced violence.

“The report from the Center for Controlling Social Disorders of Jakarta also stated that there are 0.08% or1.318 from 1.647.835 elementary, junior high school, and senior high school students that involved in brawl. And the number keeps increasing,” stated Prof. Asrowi.

Through his inauguration speech, Prof. Asrowi reminded that spiritual counseling is important. He mentioned this because the modern life has given the atmosphere that does not provide inner happiness and cause a feeling of emptiness in life. The aim of spiritual counseling mentioned by Prof. Asrowi is to establish spiritual identity to God, strengthen faith to God that he/she will be able to solve problem, and to add self-confidence, test and fix the faith and spiritual practices that do not going well.

At the end of Open Senate Assembly, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, delivered his speech. He welcomed the three new professors approaching UNS 44th anniversary. Prof. Jamal hopes that the new professors can become a proof of competitive academic and intellectual capacity in the advanced technology of Industry Revolution 4.0 Era.

“Frankly, we are proud with the new professors in UNS, who are relatively still young, so that in the service, productivity, and prospect of career development of these professors are still long. The presence of professors with high academic and intellectual capacity is believed to be most capable to make peace and live together in the workplace with the artificial intelligence and advanced machine in 4.0 era,” Prof. Jamal stated.
