UNS — Faculty of Law (FH) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta received the opportunity to attend ‘Dean Talks: How Leadership Determines the Success of Law Faculty’ held by HeyLaw, law education and training platform on Saturday (12/12/2020). FH UNS attendance received positive responses and attract more than 500 participants from the leaders and academicians from various universities and law practitioners.
Specifically, this Dean Talks discussed inspiring stories in the academic field and FH UNS program represented by Prof. Dr. I Gusti Ayu Ketut Rachmi Handayani, S.H., M.M., as the Dean of FH UNS since 2019. Sharing her leadership in leading FH UNS, Prof. Ayu stated that attitudes are needed and should be implemented, such as credibility or honesty, transparency, accountability, responsibility, and fairness. Prof. Ayu added that visionary mindset according to FH UNS target and strategy to be an excellent faculty in ASEAN in 2020-2024 and the Asia Pacific in 2025-2029.
“The strategy to achieve FH UNS vision and mission is through the A level accreditation. Publishing accredited national journal and reputable international journal. Currently, we manage various accredited national journals. We also encourage students and faculty members to publish their article in the reputable international journals,” Prof. Ayu stated.
Prof. Ayu also added that the unavoidable effort required is to build a network and connection with alumni who work at national and international organizations. This networking is created through the National Deliberation (Musyawarah Nasional – Munas) IKA FH UNS. Networking with various institutions and universities aims to develop the academic quality of the faculty. “We have MoU with institutions and universities in Asia, Europe, one in Africa, and Australia,” Prof. Ayu stated.
The positive response was provided for UNS and can be observed from the participant’s enthusiasm and various testimonials from the participants. Dr. Siti Marwiyah, S.H., M.H, Vice-Rector I Universitas Dr. Soetomo (Unitomo) delivered her best appreciation for Prof. Ayu dan FH UNS for taking a role in supporting the development of FH Unitomo. With her competencies and experiences in law and as a member of one of the best universities in Indonesia, Prof. Ayu and FH UNS are still welcoming other universities to work together.
“When FH UNS will participate in an event, Prof. Ayu often invited Unitomo to participate. Not only invited but (Prof. Ayu) also provides examples of that need to be prepared. Supporting Unitomo to be developed,” Dr. Marwiyah revealed.
Prof. Dr. Arief Hidayat, S.H., M.S., Constitutional Court Justices of the Republic of Indonesia (Hakim Konstitusi MK RI), who know Prof. Ayu during their expertise service in MK RI, also conveyed his testimonial. Discussing the recent social and legal problems, Prof. Arief stated that FH UNS is capable of taking a role in strengthening the social cohesion in Indonesia through education. “I have a message to UNS, please also teach Pancasila legal system. We should not let the national culture not develop and be surpassed by foreign cultures,” he stated.
The event was also attended by Prof. Zudan Arif Fakrulloh (Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration Ministry of Internal Affairs and alumnus UNS), Prof.Muhammad (Chief of DKPP RI), Dewi Kurnia Salwa (Alumnus UNS and VP Human Capital Pertamina International Shipping), and Dr. Bambang Manumayoso (President Director of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia July 2017-June 2020).
