UNS – The Chief of Registration and Halal Certification Product Guarantee Agency (Pusat Registrasi dan Sertifikasi Halal Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal – BPJPH) Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) RI, Dr. H. Mastuki, M. Ag, encouraged Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta to review halal products in Indonesia. This was delivered by Dr. Mastuki in the ‘Optimization of MSMEs in the Halal Industry in Indonesia’ webinar in the launching Halal Research Center and Services (HRCS) the Institute for Research and Community Engagement (LPPM) UNS, Wednesday (1/7/2020).
Dr. Mastuki stated that halal product guarantee in Indonesia is a mandate from the Constitution (UUD 1945) Article 29 Paragraph (2) which states ‘the state guarantee individual freedom to embrace and practise their religion and belief’. In line with the Law of Halal Product Guarantee No. 3 of 2014, Dr. Mastuki explained that BPJPH bears two responsibilities. First to provide comfort, security, safety, and certainty of the availability of halal products for the public and secondly, to improve the added values for business to produce and sell halal products.
The webinar was a collaboration between LPPM UNS and The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) RI and invited three other speakers. They are Dr. Agus Supriyanto as the Chief of HRCS LPPM UNS, Ir. Aris Darmansyah as the Expert Staff on MSMEs, Creative Economy, and Employment Kemenko PMK, and Ir. Mukhlis Bahrainy as the CEO of Pachira Group. in a webinar hold through Zoom Cloud Meeting, Dr. Agus Supriyanto conveyed that the halal guarantee system requires products to be processed in the halal standard.
The utilization of Science and Technology in food processing is also mentioned by Ir. Mukhlis Bahrainy as the CEO of Pachira Group. MSMEs development is an effort to strengthen the competitiveness to win the market by optimizing the use of local raw material and the implementation of processing technology. As an observer of MSME, Ir. Mukhlis Bahrainy encourages MSMEs to give a priority to hygiene so that MSMEs can produce distinctive products. The MSMEs topic is also discussed by Ir. Aris Darmansyah. He explained that halal product guarantee for MSMEs that enter, circulated, and traded in Indonesia must have a halal certificate according to Article 4 of Law No. 3 of 2014 concerning JPH. Humas UNS
